My front yard grass is great, the north facing backyard does not get much sun

It is graded on a nice slope but the ground seems to have a lot of clay deep in it

What iv tried:

Sand and top soil raked in
Shady area grass seed
Aeration

It is currently winter and super rainy here in British Columbia, it does look a lot better in summer!

Seeking any advice!!, ofc iv thought about adding drains by digging trenches but the area is so small and not exactly sure it would help .

I’m in a similar boat with my north side lawn, which the previous owner had re-sodded late last winter, and have tried similar remedies this winter.

I’m going to try some dry wells next year if conditions don’t improve with higher mowing, Sandy loam + compost and reseeding in the spring.

  2. I used lime and gypsum in the recommended ratio’s for my clay backyard initially with a fortnightly application of liquid Kelp products (Seasol) and I saw a transformation over a few months. All anecdotal but worked for me.
