New place and trying to show it some love. First time having a backyard and trying to appreciate it. We have fertilized it with Brunnings Lawn Food and aerated the soil a bit and spread generic lawn seed from Bunnings about a week ago. What should we be doing to fill the patches and get this lawn thriving? The soil with the empty patches seems pretty hard, appreciate your help.

Soil looks hard as a rock. Even if the seeds do take it’ll really struggle as the roots won’t really go down.
I would’ve at the very least aerated with a fork first and got some soil wetter down/ gave the area a good soaking before seeding. Looks like it could also use some organic material in the soil to get the grass thriving. If you get all your gear from Bunnings Charlie carp is a good kelp (fish) based product full of nutrients that you can use on everything.
I know everyone’s budget is different so I won’t push all the expensive products but I’ve found Brunnings products to be extremely poor and low quality. ‘Munns green keeper’ is the best fertiliser I’ve tried from Bunnings that’s still reasonably affordable.
On the plus side the fertiliser you’ve put down will get the weeds growing which is a good time to put down a selective herbicide (make sure it’s safe for your lawn type) and knock them over. LawnHubs NSFW works great otherwise you should be able to get BinDie at Bunnings. Have fun 👍
