first time seeding a very bare lawn

Location – houston texas
seeded – Late november
seed – Annual rye

honestly surprised at how it came out since i didn’t remove any weeds nor did i do anything like add soil. main thing i did was trim the tree to let more sunlight in, im still struggling with the areas closer to the house but i suppose thats due to the sun. besides that just water everyday about 3-4 a day.

going into spring i would like to seed a warm season grass, i know that rye grass needs to be sprayed with some sort of spray before adding new seed correct?

what seed brand would y’all suggest for something a bit thicker? i like this color but i find it too easily it gets squished when grown tall
