Great information Kim.
I'm planting different lettuces Monday.
This helped me a lot.
Thank you.
i always grow my lettuce indoors during the winter time. because or california rains are so unpredictable. and lettuce can get waterlogged. By the way I lovv e your new Book the 10 minute gardener. I just know its going to become one of my favorite go to's for next years garden.
For sure will be planting some lettuce in spring. Although it's 62 here in SW pa. Will be dropping back down to cold 🥶 weather next week.
Hi Kim what kind of soil u use for your vegetables and for smart pots what the best soil for smart pots
Hi Kim,
I like eating Romaine Lettuce. It is not as frost hardy as other leaf varieties, and needs temperatures between 50-75F. I’ll start the Romain as seed starts, and wait until after the coldest part of winter has passed to transplant them. I’ll also be growing some mixed seed that I have, Merlot, Black Seeded Simpson, and something else. It is my surprise seed mix.
I picked the cauliflower heads today. They were frost damaged, so went to the chickens. I got three eggs today, so they got a special treat. I also picked broccoli; they went into the freezer, and I have one head that needs a few days, and another that needs two weeks. I’ll have to wait and see if I get both heads. It is harvest time for carrots, beets, and parsnips. Just in time, on January 3, I start my seed starts. Yeah!

Jay always writes entertaining stories. This is no exception. Excitement, danger, drama, corruption, and love in a wonderful space yarn.
I’ll be kicking off the official book launch on Jan, 8th. In the meantime, I am currently writing Chapter 9, in NASTI Business, and have set up the next story, Net Zero Asea. The things I do to distract me from taking over the world…
Hey wait a minute. Didn't I just release Tales From the Galactic Rim?
Using a spoon was a great idea to get those seedlings out of the six pack. I never would’ve thought of that! Haha 💙💚💛🧡💜 Liz
We don't have a lot of cool weather here in the Caribbean but even when it's cooler I struggle with growing lettuce. Thanks for the tips.
All great information… however, why did you water with the fertilizer water directly over/on the plants?
I just planted my lettuce in my inside garden, the seeds I ordered from you!
??? Do you have a fan blowing on the inside garden???
I love lettuce.
Happy new year Calikim
At 6:02, what are those awesome little white and purple flowers?
I adore a salad made with home grown lettuce and spinach, getting my hydroponics going.
Hate buying store bought anything produce wise.
Awesome video, Stay Well !!! and Happy New Year!
I think Mac wanted some of that fish and guano fertilizer, lol.
Hi my friends, CaliKim and Camera man😊Happy New Year to you both🎉Kim I just had to pull up my lettuce😢I had little black aphids all over it! I just didn’t want to spray it all over. They were in every crook and cranny. Fortunately I have a few plants just starting in another location. Have you had these aphids before?
Those transplants are ready to eat. Great information. What variety is your most cold hardy? Here in southeast Texas we are having a mild winter so far but soon to be in the 30's.
I rarely have success growing lettuce outside. I live in zone 9 TX, and the temps ramp up quickly down here. I read that some gardeners successfully grow lettuce indoors. Thought I'd give this method a try. I have some Merlot and lettuce mix seedlings that have been growing on my indoor lighted grow station and are ready to transplant. Have 6 lettuces to transplant. Going to transplant 1 lettuce each in a 10" tall, 1-gallon grow bag, since the root system is shallow. I'll keep them indoors on the grow station. Hopefully, I'll have lettuce to eat soon.
I have learned so much from you! I have lettuce growing, but now know I need to fertilize! I will do that tomorrow. I'm also going to your site now to order my spring seeds. I'm in Menifee, so not far from you. It's time to start my seedlings. Wish me luck!
