Had this plant for 2 years and ever since I brought it home it keeps turning brown and dry at the tips and edges of the leaves. I keep it away from direct sunlight and make sure the soil is always moist – watering it once a week plentifully and the pot does not have drainage.

  1. Life – calatheas hate it 🤣

They are fussy plants tho – I find low temps and low humidity make them freak out

I’ve killed 2 so far, but have a huge rufibaba that’s been going strong for over a year now! I make sure temps don’t drop below 12C and humidity stays above 50% (60 ideally, not hard in the UK at this time of year), and that seems to be working so far!

Edit: Browing could also be pests – if you don’t see anything obvious, check the underside for small black dots. These could indicate thrips, but it’s also highly likely that it’s just being fussy!!!

It needs to be in a pot with drainage, otherwise the water that doesn’t get used has nowhere to go and that leads to problems.

Also try using distilled water, or water that has been sitting out overnight.

Don’t use a schedule to water. Use the weight of the pot and feel of the soil.

If you mist the leaves, stop doing that since it doesn’t help raise humidity. Only get the leaves wet when you water it.
