Charles Collins began his green gardening business in 2020 when a massive drought hit Arizona and no one was able to grow any plants. During this challenging time, he came up with the idea to start a hydroponic garden in his backyard in order to get his plants to thrive during the devastating weather. He began documenting his experience on YouTube, and it quickly grabbed viewers attention—including companies such as Panagraphic.
Today, Charles’ videos have millions of views on YouTube, and he generates close to $10K per month from sponsorships, endorsements, consultations, and system designs. Charles is now a leading voice and advocate for setting up sustainable gardens, and he works with different countries in similar climates to teach them how to grow food sustainability.
Despite not growing up in the best area in Upstate New York, Charles was influenced by his grandmother’s garden, taking trips to the library, and his sense of community. Charles believes that we can encourage and uplift people from all facets of life, which the process of sustainable gardening also promotes.
In this episode, learn how to start this type of business yourself, the process of gardening sustainably, and other ways to profit from growing your own food. He also explains how the knowledge of growing your own food is worth more than gold.

This guy's work is incredibly efficient in so MANY ways, except ONE:
NANOPLASTIC, tiny particles of plastic are being introduced into the soil and maybe into the plants. I don't say this lightly, it would be wonderful if the god damn plastic materials were not involved.
The guy being interviewed seems familiar, did he do another video on aquaponics before?
Ridiculous! You NEED bacteria to bind nitrogen.
You know it's really interesting when people say that the easier forms of farming are aquaponics Hydroponics and aeroponics when those are definitely more complicated and take more set up costs than traditional farming in the dirt. He also notice that their facilities are always in greenhouses which adds to cost. I'm fully supportive of new technologies and all of these different systems that have come out however people should not mislead consumers into believing that a aquaponics system is easy to operate. Most people can't even keep the fish alive in their fish tank in their house much less a whole aquaponics system
What an inspiration.
Keep up the good work.
This isn't complete truth. You can not always provide them to local grocery stores. MOST won't take them. Most of the times to sell to a local store you have to go through their distribution. There are some exceptions.
You'll also need to check local laws. There are places you can pick these and sell. There are places where special handling has to be followed. There are a lot of local markets that are full or also have a greens guy. Look hard to see if you have a market before you think you are going to magically start getting $5 a head from everyone you see. We started at $3 a head many years ago and had a hard time them. Watch out for those who promise easy money.
Thanks!
This is stupid
This dude is awesome. May God bless him.
NASA Secret? Sustainable Gardening Solutions Expert? 😂
.
This is basic hydroponics/aquaponics that people have been doing for centuries …..
.
Guys let’s all mine for Gold and I’ll sell you the shovels 😂
Instead of pointing out any inconsistencies with the subtitles, I wanted to just share that I am truly and powerfully inspired to grow a garden and feed my family.
These systems – which appears to be what he is selling – cannot be nearly as cheap as how he says he started off. That is the misleading part of this episode. This is not so simple nor so cheap.
I’m building up my backyard food farm (eggs, veg) and I see an increasing number of my neighbours creating small farms in their yards, generating a serious amount of fresh fruit and veg. Why? Because the supermarkets are charging ridiculous prices, until fresh food seems like a luxury. Growing our food is taking back our power along with our health!
¿What about worms?, ¿are there worms in your stones too?
❤❤❤❤
Petite bourgeois stuff
Nearing to be false consciousness
My thing is that food is no where near as nutritious as food grown in soil as intended. I wonder if anyone has tested and compared hydroponic grown food nutrient content to soil grown.
2nd where this liquid nutrient come from like is it synthetic?
I truly enjoyed this video. Hope this channel grows tremendously in 2025
How have I not heard of this!? This is amazing!! CaliKim
Hydroponic Carpetbagger
Charles you are a genius !!! ty !!
my grandmother was a farmer, she always wanted us to try it. not until she was gone did I try and the love I have for it, the passion and the joy. I think of her whenever im hands in the earth
Just his energy itself is dope!
the most sustainable form of gardening is soil gardening …. da fuck
what are the fidh eating?
American Made. Made In America.
I relate to his story.
Where did you start of selling?
Wait? im not supposed to put seeds up my nose? what's the world coming to.
fish poopy will save the earth! thank you little fishy.
to anyone looking to farm for business- don't quit your day job. I've been growing for over 20 years and have used all these methods he is talking about and more, read books, 1,000s of hours of education. He is definitely exaggerating and upselling in this video. Tons of problems will occur, seasons, bugs, weather, rodents, birds, system problems, nutrients, watering schedules, forgetting tasks, it's endless. that doesn't include the problems of selling crops as a business. If you're new, grow enough produce to fill your own fridge 1st and have enough to give away and do it consistently for 2 seasons before jumping all in. learn what you're good at growing. Also I encourage everyone to grow, I believe the future is bright for backyard and community farmers. Even if you don't sell your crops grow some stuff for yourself, it's rewarding, teaches patience, teaches about the natural world, and the produce is much better than anything in the store.
Leave the profit i'ma profit for just growing & eating these without going to grocery store. Man once I have house with yard I'm getting into growing in sunny Florida. All year would be vegetables in backyard.
Please make more videos with landscaping companies and towing companies
I think what he is doing is good but I don't believe he makes 10k. I make 10k per month, and i actually farm for a living. You should see my farm it is amazing, not an empty backyard. I also have a degree in agriculture.
I would love to get into this. But I struggle to see who would be purchasing this produce
After so much struggles I now own a new house and my family is happy once again everything is finally falling into place!!
I love this podcast amazing wanna see more like this 😄 eating organic is the best way
as a homesteader whose parents are master gardener and commercial growers, the numbers are highly extravagated. misleading misleading
Great video
