Hi everyone, I would really appreciate your help with these 3 issues I’m having. I’m a big fan of your work on this sub! I water them once a week and feed them once a month.

Photo 1: can I leave my plants on top of my wardrobe like that? The leaves have gone yellow on some of them and the plant from photo 2 went moldy and died when it was up there. They don’t get much light up there.

Photo 2-3: this plant is dead right? The soil has gone moldy. Is there anything I can do? The plant has some babies, can I replant them?

Photo 4-5: someone gave me this monstera recently and it looks like it needs some love. Should I do something to hold up the leaves? Should I do something with the soil? Or is it supposed to look like that?

    1. I think you’ve just answered your own question. There’s not enough light on that wardrobe and the plants with moldy soil need more time to dry out between waterings. Check the soil moisture with fingers when it comes to decide whether it’s time to water again or not. The soil should be dry. If it’s somewhat between dry and moist, don’t risk it and check again in a few days.

    2. I think you still have chances to save it by repotting it and removing as much as possible of the old soil and rotten roots, if there are any. Just don’t water it immediatelly after repotting, wait for a few days. The babies can be easily cut and potted into a new soil, you can try propagating them in water too. Just make sure they get enough light.

    3. It seems that this monstera at some point had soil very dry for too long. If it’s still dry, please water it. It would also be better to give her stem some kind of support, because in nature they climb on other trees or objects and it would keep falling down without the support. It’s hard to see what’s the situation in the pot, but if there are multiple monsteras or the large ball of roots in there, it would be better to repot it and divide plants into separate pots. You can also cut some of the brown aerial roots so the plant would look tidier. Those roots are mostly used by the plant as legs to support itself, but not all of them are necessary in your case.

    Good luck!

Notilucent gave great advice! I want to add a couple of things. Plants always need to adjust to a new place- so that is normal. Those plants are adaptable and will bounce back if you change up their care and add some light. I have had some plants in very rough shape, but with pruning and repotting , extra light- they came around! You will learn from this and know what to do next time!
