This video is all about finding Gulf Fritillary butterflies and locating their eggs and caterpillars on their host plants growing in my butterfly garden. Passiflora incarnata is the main host plant I use for them in my garden and my hope is to find a lot of eggs and caterpillars so I can bring them into my garden room and raise them from caterpillars to butterflies. I usually see a lot more of these butterflies in my garden at this time of year. I am concerned over the lack of Gulf Fritillary sightings and want to try to increase their population by raising a few and releasing them in my Florida garden.

I live in Florida and I am in gardening zone 10a. I have turned my entire backyard into a butterfly garden and I love sharing the day to day details with you in the hopes of inspiring you to plant or expand your own butterfly garden.

There is always something exciting going on in my butterfly garden and I’m happy to share it with you.

  1. I hate the feeling of coming down with something. I’m having a much bigger medical problem where I’m not exactly sure is going on right now. But I went and got an X-Ray and an EKG. So now I have an appointment with my PCP tomorrow and then a cardiologist appointment January 3rd but am on a waitlist for a sooner timeslot. Don’t we love health problems😂 The answer is NO. It’s in the 50s today so that’s nice because now that snow is gone. I hope the little caterpillars grow and recolonize your garden in record time. After all, we need to see them flying in the background of your videos.

  2. I'm having the same issue with the Gulf Fritillary in my yard. I was happy to see just 1 on my purple lantana today and it reminded me how scarce they've been. I was devastated last year to discover so many tiny gulf caterpillars on my small potted passion vine, only to have those nasty hornets get them all! So happy you did discover some eggs, plus thrilled that you are helping the zebra longwings, my favorite butterfly. Sadly, I've only seen 2 longwings this year, my favorite. Your videos are so beautifully filmed, I really appreciate you! I'm not that far from you in Citrus County so we have the same environment.

  3. I just started watching you recently. I have a garden I’m growing for butterflies in south Alabama on the gulf coast. I have been watching a monarch caterpillar munching and today he went into my rose bush to start the pupa stage. 🤩 I am so excited but nervous too. How long have you been gardening for butterflies?
We have gulf fritillaries, buck eye, sulphur, and moths of different kinds. I haven’t seen a swallow tail in a while. They are so fun to watch. Hope you feel better! ❤️‍🩹

  4. I think the cold weather makes Gukf Frits less active. I read they can survive temis down to 20 degrees. Im gkad you found butterflies and caterpillars today!😊

  5. Those are actually the only butterflies that I have in my garden in Sacramento. They are hosted by my passion flower vine. I am looking to diversify the population.

  6. Happy Thanksgiving! Things are slowing down in my garden for sure. I did see one monarch and two gulf frits yesterday and I was happy to see them. We are gettting some cold spells in Jax so that's likely the issue.

  7. I hope you have a nice Thanksgiving and YES I would love for you to post on Thursday and all those football fan can watch their shows while I watch yours! Hope you feel better soon

  8. I still have gulf fritillary caterpillars. We didn’t have as many butterflies this year. Last year was packed with butterflies. Hopefully next year.

  9. I didn't see any today because it was rainy and cool but yesterday I saw a few gulf fritillary. I'm in Memphis ya'll that is crazy. It was 11/24,

  10. Morning Susan it could be birds too eating your caterpillars too so I brought in a lot of eggs and caterpillars 😊 greetings from my butterfly garden in ft Lauderdale 😊
