When to first mow Kikuyu turf (sod)?

Hi brainstrust.
Just wondering if you guys could help advise when new Kikuyu turf should be first mowed?

I put in the turf 10 days ago and it appears to be absolutely thriving and is getting quite long.

I guess I was just hesitant as I thought conventional wisdom was to not step on it or mow it for 3-4 weeks.

Also I have a really small area (app 12 sqm) and was thinking of just getting a push mower. However someone said a push mower won't handle Kikuyu and I'll need electric/battery at a minimum – any thoughts by people here?
