Is there something wrong with the root ? The base has become brown and the leaves also have become brown from the base.
I tried wiggling the center leaves and they seem to be firmly attached. I tried looking in deeper at the root and there are layers of skin peeling off. Is something wrong ?

This looks severely dehydrated. Give it a good hour long soak then shake off excess water and allow to dry upside down for a few hours
If it feels firm and the leaves are staying intact when gently tugged at, I’ll say it is not root rot. Tho like u/humangeigercounter stated, it does look dehydrated.
As mentioned, it’s is definitely dehydrated. Regular misting and keeping it away from direct sunlight would help. As there is still new growth, it would survive.
