Welcome back to Renovating in Tuscany!
It’s been a whirlwind few weeks full of challenges and exciting progress. After recovering from Covid, I had a setback with nerve pain that led to a trip to the emergency room. Thankfully, I’m slowly healing, and we’re back in action preparing for some big projects! Robbie has been keeping us on our toes, and with the remainder of 2024 and the beginning of 2025 packed with major renovations, we’re full speed ahead.
Not only that, but our online shop is launching next weekend! We’re so excited to share a collection of beautiful, curated items that will be available to ship across the EU and the United States. Make sure to sign up for our newsletter at casaardor.com to get all the details!
When we last left off, we were wrapping up a much-needed getaway to Beaune, savoring delicious meals like a 3-course lunch at a local château and indulging in cheesy raclette during our overnight stay in Mont Blanc. We soaked up the incredible scenery and returned to Tuscany feeling refreshed and ready to tackle new projects.
Back at the villa, we were thrilled with the progress Roland made clearing out the overgrown garden. It was so refreshing to see a tidy outdoor space again! Now, we’re diving into landscaping plans with a focus on creating a family-friendly outdoor space that’s both functional and beautiful.
Our vision includes a Mediterranean-inspired front garden featuring gravel, lavender, and even reusing the existing fountain as the perfect spot for a gorgeous olive tree. We’re also tackling the challenge of reworking the slope in the front yard to create a soft, gradual incline with space for seating, greenery, and a safe area for Robbie to run around. Roland’s expertise has been invaluable in helping us balance aesthetics, practicality, and maintenance within our budget.
We know this is a big project, but we’re excited to take it step by step to create a space we’ll enjoy for years to come.
Plus, stay tuned because our bathroom series is just around the corner! We’ll be walking you through the design, installation, and final reveal of all three upstairs bathrooms.

Good to see you guys! So glad you are feeling better…….Bev in Colorado
cant wait to see your new garden!! Thank you for sharing
I always look forward to your uploads
Love the Olive tree and lavender idea. I might be inclined to keep the retaining wall close to the house. Oh, bathroom remodels are so fun.
Yes to olive tree and can't wait to see those bathrooms! Did you go with that pink tile?
Oh so lovely to see you all back but really sorry you've been so unwell. Trigeminal neuralgia is one of the most painful nerve pain syndromes apparently. Hoping you're taking it a little easier (sounds impossible with all the things you have going on) and getting in lots of naps when feeling tired! Love the idea of the olive tree and lavender, utilising the defunct fountain, genius! Also love the idea of levelling off a little at the top and getting rid of that awful concrete. I would maybe keep those two top retaining beds to the right but level off after those. Would be fabulous with just mass plantings of beautiful grasses in them..super easy and low maintenance! You always have such fabulous ideas and i absolutely can't wait to see your bathrooms and how the garden evolves. I actually love the landscaping, especially the hard landscaping aspects, just as much as the interior design. So fun and it really is the first thing people see when dealing with the front facade and entrance. So excited!
Loved the olive tree idea the only thing that came to mind was when you pointed out the views of the sea and the tree being right in front of the views of the sea. Not sure how much concrete you would need to jack hammer to get a tree in there and have a good soil base. Just a thought.
Bentornati!!! It's so good to see you back and better…yay! I hope little Robbie is doing great too! I think your ideas for the garden will look fabulous and will give a softer, more organic and user-friendly garden than before. It's all harsh walls and lots of hard surfaces at the moment. Little Robbie and his friends/future sibblings? 🙊 will really love it! I can see you all sitting around a beautiful big olive tree inside the old fountain walls…a fabulous upcycle! It's going to be gorgeous, just like everything else you do.
Bravissimi …take care, stay warm and see you soon 🥰🤗😘💚
I like the ideas for the garden, olive tree, lavender etc… And it is good to simplify because in fact it grows so fast and it requires so much maintenance when it’s sophisticated, even more than for a house! Something more natural in the whole is better and also pretty. As also a natural lawn, fruit trees… The space will be more pleasant for children to play too!
