  1. Lay off the "World's most" titles. That's a janky 8' fence at best. A farmer would use long steel pipes as posts, not that cringe you imagined into existence.

  2. I have a small home sort-of-a-garden. I don't work hard at it all because my spring and summer is filled with other things. But I do something that might help some others. I figure deer won't jump into a very small area that they can't jump out of. So I fence in small little spots. Eventually that will change if I ever have time, but for right now it works.

  3. You got the fence right! I had a lot of people tell me the Irish Spring would work, however, from my experience with deer is that Irish Spring soap does not work. When I was trying to protect some of my yard plants, with no fence, I put Irish Spring about every 3 feet, what I found were teeth marks in the soap and some eaten plants and the soap does not last very long in the elements. I believe it's a waste of time and money to use Irish Spring. It is just my experience and my opinion. I like the channel, keep up the nice work, Have a Merry Christmas!

  4. No way for me to be deer proof here but just for information, I removed the fence wire from the ground up to about 12 to 14 inches so that I could mow the area under the fence between the posts. I watched one morning as 2 deer easily just dropped down and under the fence like it wasn't even there. Watching your channel from Western Illinois close to Iowa. Always enjoy the information that you put out and many thanks for the education.

  5. Awesome job.Deer are red and green color blind, May I suggest blue and/or yellow ribbon on the fence. Love what you are doing. Thanks for sharing. Blessings

  6. Maybe you should spray the tape red for really good visibility just a thought would help with snow mobilers also I would think because white won't be visible when you have snow on the ground

  7. One of the homesteaders using a double fence system. He puts about 6' feet between the fence rows. Deer have poor depth perceptio😮n and don't like jumping into narrow areas. He says no deer in years. He uses the area in between the fences for poultry.

  8. ❤Living Traditions Homestead uses a double fence six feet apart. They have not had any deer problems. They say that deer have a depth perception problem and will not attempt to jump the fence. Just in case you need more information.

  9. Hey, i would love the footage and the rough estimate in-terms of cost? Im going to be doing a deer-proof fence this spring on a 5-acre piece of land. We're not fencing the whole piece of land, but we're going to do a giant garden. It sure would help to know roughly how much it's going to cost us to get the job done!

  10. You really need an H brace to hold up those gates. Over time (short time) the gate will drag the post over. Good luck.

  11. I consider the irish spring soap thing to be an old wives tale. I tried that several times and the deer would walk right past it. Best deer deterrent I have found is my 2 german shepards.

  12. I have the phycological charged fence outside my garden. The inside is cattle panels. I used cattle panels because they would scoot under a wire. This system has kept 19 deer that wander through my yard out of the garden. ❤❤

  13. Have 150 fruit trees in one acre in our orchard in the Willamette valley of Oregon

After many deer issues and different fence combinations I settled on the following design
4 inch 12 foot treated wood posts with vapor barrier on the ground side
4 foot tall heavy duty galvanized fence on the bottom in contact with the ground
8 foot tall heavy duty plastic fence on top of the metal fence
U-chanel metal to extend the posts higher up

Did start out with just the plastic 8 foot fence with stakes but fawns would get in and then the mother would wiggle in after them so going to metal stopped that problem.

  14. My fence for my portage is only 7ft after install and I have never had a deer get into my garden. I believe the reason for this is my cinder block raised beds. They fill the floor of my garden and some are 2.5 ft tall. They cannot see a place to land if they were to jump in. Chipmonks on the other hand are another story . Enjoying watching your process Luke ! Thx for sharing your blessing and adventure with us !
