Nothing wrong with letting nature run its course. I had a beautifully native garden and yard and my city recently passed some new super classist codes trying to make everything mood and getting rid of native plants in favor of like fescue grass? Even dictating that I had to deadhead my hydrangeas because they weren't in bloom anymore? And… I didn't take that well. As there is nothing wrong with letting a dead hydrangea flower drop naturally? Did the absolute bare minimum and put up some privacy fence. It has benefited my yard substantially. The ambient area heat is still higher since they have started doing this, but my yard is more comfortable. Nature flourishes for a reason. It's okay to let it
What variety of zinnia are those? They're lovely!
Also, birds will eat the seeds, the soil is protected from erosion, and beneficial bugs 🐛 have a place to live. There are so many benefits to letting nature do its thing.
My gardening style has always been low maintenance. Let the plants do their thing and re seed them selves. I help things along when they need it… natural compost fertilizer, watering, removal of invasive species… but mostly leave it to nature. I prefer a natural looking garden to one that is highly landscaped and looks forced.
What a beautiful backyard!
Always save seeds and share with your gardening friends, or gorilla garden them in your community 💚
My garden club spent like 2 hours sorting through and pulling off the tiny zinnia seeds for our library's seed garden
❤
I too love my zinnia graveyard!
Don’t forget that as it gets colder, many garden butterflies and insects are beginning to hibernate in the fallen debris of garden beds! Most people clean out the dead plants because of “aesthetics” and don’t realize they’re basically murdering their wildlife biome. Dead greenery should be left in place as much as possible until the spring thaw, but it’s definitely not possible everywhere.
low maintenance gardening is the best lol no shame in it!
