Baltimore police are working with seven communities to prevent crime and enhance neighborhood safety. Lessons learned through a program called SafeGrowth informed safety plans presented Tuesday to strengthen community policing by rebuilding relationships between police and neighborhoods. Now, Baltimore is working on new approaches using safety plans. Part of the plan focuses on concerns in the Baltimore Highlands community of East Baltimore Street and Highland Avenue and the surrounding area, specifically on drug activity, violent and property crimes, illegal dumping, trash and even abandoned cars.
