Containers heat up and dry out more quickly during the summer. This is very stressful for plants.
Although I love gardening in containers, once the spring crops finish up I put all but the largest ones away during our long, hot summers. You can use the soil in the containers as mulch for your plants or add it to your compost.
When temperatures cool back down in the fall, I’ll bring them back out again.

Is this more for plants in ceramic pots? I have grow bags and grow bins that are semi deep with wheels.
I put mine in a semi shady area. Shade cloth for bigger ones.
I group mine together and keep them on grass so the pots don’t overheat. Keeping a closer eye on the pots around the edge of the group. All huddled up kinda like a flock of penguins lol. I don’t really have a way to put small pots away because they are constantly in use, but I do move them to different parts of the yard depending on time of year.
Oh dang. I am doing tons of pots this year on my patio. Terra cotta. 10 invh bottoms. 12 inch top. now I’m a nervous wreck. Its over 100 for weeks at time here in California. Aaaaaaack
Beautiful ❤
Great timing on your video, thank you! What do you think you 24"x24"x10" wood garden beds for Armenian cucumbers, too small? 🌻
@GrowingInTheGarden do you have a video on the shade cloth you place? Like when you put it up and the direction it sits, West, South? Thanks 🌸🌼🌺
Thank you for your great advice ❤
That you for actually trying to teach instead of show pretty pictures.
