It’s been a month and a half since Hurricane Helene struck, and today, we’re on the ground again with someone who’s been in the thick of it since day one. Join me as I interview a dedicated rescue team member who shares incredible stories of survival, community, and hard lessons learned in the aftermath of disaster. From bringing in cadaver dogs to locate victims to performing miraculous rescues with nothing but teamwork and grit, he’s seen it all. He even reflects on his own preparedness, admitting he forgot his sleeping bag and nearly froze during one of the first cold nights.

In this video, we dive into the realities of disaster response, how they managed without reliable communication, and what it truly takes to be prepared in extreme conditions. These are critical lessons for every prepper, as we learn from both his successes and the surprising oversights even a seasoned responder can make.

Six weeks after Hurricane Helene, I’m back in the field for an in-depth interview with a longtime rescue team member who’s been working on the ground since day one. We’ve worked together on past projects, and he shares firsthand stories about rescue operations, bringing in cadaver dogs, finding survivors, and the struggle of operating without reliable power. He opens up about how, even as a prepared-minded individual, he overlooked some essentials—like his sleeping bag—which nearly cost him a sleepless, freezing night.

As always, I’m here with my vehicle preparedness bag, ready for anything these zones throw my way. This video highlights real-world insights into staying prepared, from critical lessons to on-the-ground teamwork and resilience. These experiences are invaluable reminders of why being prepared matters—whether you’re on the ground or gearing up at home.

  1. Do you know the warning signs for a disaster in your area, like tornadoes or wildfires?

  2. Check flea markets in near communities or towns because some of them seem to have heaters and blankets and sleeping bags and shoes and I think someone might’ve taken some of your stuff

  3. GOD BLESS EVERYONE,I PRAY GOD HELPS YA'ALL,VICTIMS AND HELPERS,IN JESUS NAME,AMEN,MY HEART GOES OUT TO EVERYONE,STAY STRONG,HAVE FAITH,GOD HEARS YOUR PRAYERS,SENDIND LOVE AND PRAYERS FROM OHIO

  4. I’ve worked disaster relief from 2010-2014 in Multiple states and the crews had to deal with FEMA every single time. FEMA IS COMPLETELY WORTHLESS AND HAS BEEN DOING THIS FOR YEARS!!!!! What and who is left after a disaster will be treated like they’re in a concentration camp. I’ve seen it wayyy too much. I’m surprised it took this long for FEMA to be called out, anytime I’d post or say anything about them people would look at me like I’m some conspiracy theorist, now I don’t look so crazy.

  5. This quote has never been more true to me. “The nine most terrifying words in the English language are, ‘I’m from the government and I’m here to help’” – Reagan

  6. I believe that with all my heart after president Donald Trump is sworn in January 20. He will clean house in FEMA and they will become responsive to the people and to their needs. The only reason FEMA did not do more is because we are talking about US citizens not illegal immigrants.

  7. Lets hold the feds accountable for EVERY death. We need to start fighting back, WETHE PEOPLE are always going to help our neighbor, the feds threaten arrest and fines, confiscate supplies. screw them all, Id rather have a neighbor come look for me than the government in times like this.

  8. fox was right- Jimmy Carter really IS america's worst monster. for he creaed fema to do exactly what it did here. this was by design.

  9. So many people in FEMA need to be charged from the response to this storm from not helping people with Trump signs to stealing supplies from people actually helping. So wrong on so many levels.

  10. People on maui, in lahaina, and other places of the Island Experience the same exact thing with fema, the red cross, and so forth. Just like people like you, it was the Good Samaritans providing the needed help.

  11. Why are people just letting their supplies being stolen? What's going on in their heads.😮

  12. Y’all wake up. Fema was never a disaster relief organization. They have always been an anti terroist elimination group to handle situations in the USA. Like mass deportation and so forth.

  13. problem is the Dems don't want to admit they spent all of fema's funds , the areas hit don't vote democrat and need to be punished, and the confiscations are being done under obama executive orders that boil down to "everything belongs to the federal government without compensation', including our persons. There also seems to be a land grab going on . I haven't seen anything official but I have been hearing fema has been handing people $2500 checks telling the owners their land now belongs to the federal government without option.

  14. Your going to be upset when fema comes into your house to take your food. They will literally take your food to give it up the wealthy.

  15. Document everything you are witnessing and encountering with FEMA. They will pay in the end. Them coming in and taking all your supplies is stealing and making the folks in peril.
SHAME ON FEMA. I support your crew and what you are doing there. Praying.

  16. FEMA is an abomination. Stealing personal supplies from the needy. And where are those supplies going? No accountability.

  17. I don't understand why people think they own anything. The constitution is clear that you and your "property" are subject to the takings clause and eminent domain. We are subjects of the government with no right to anything including our bodies. So, no it's not surprising that property is being seized for "the public good".

  18. TY God for Mr.D.. being sanity and then neglect of this administration needs to go immediately.. WT LITERAL Fk planet are we on? Anymore 😮

  19. And it breaks my heart to see the pets in the livestock and their horses that has to be beyond heartbreaking😮 and then FEMA and a DEI failure administration

  20. This is criminal action by the government and FEMA, using fraudulent authority to INCREASE suffering of their political opponents 🤬

  21. FEMA is a a waste of tax payers money. That is a crime against humanity. Out with FEMA! Where are their supplies, no one wants FEMA ..you over there stealing land and supplies .what kind of people work for FEMA. !!! ??? If you're not there to help just get the hell out!

  22. biblical prophecy. mans laws. for these things will pass, but in due time these things will worsen and increase. what we experience as the worst storms and catastrophes today will be bigger and far more devistating tomorrow. the inevitable. sorry to be the bearer of bad news but i knew these things would happen. you are a true christian then events like this would be understood in a biblical perspective. this was not just your average hurricane? tropical storm. the next 20 years will be far far more horrifying then the past 20 years

  23. Wasn’t “fema incompetence “….this has all been intentional and by design as evidenced by the recent fema whistleblowers. Democrat leadership are fema are discriminating against conservative communities/landowners

  24. Geoengineered storm caused destruction- Divine Intervention saving lives & helping people who have lost EVERYTHING. I wish I had the skills & a babysitter to come help you guys. This is just disgusting. I’m 40 min from y’all. 😢

  25. Are any of these volunteers armed, who are trying to get supplies in to the victims??? THIS is exactly why we have the 2nd amendment!

  26. Every time a government starts a group to manage emergencies it ends up creating the emergencies or at the very least making them worse.

  27. I think many people do not appreciate the total size in miles of this disaster. Since North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida and Tennessee were all hit by the hurricane Helene it has to be hundreds of miles north to south and perhaps a hundred miles East to west or more. With enormous power outages, bridges destroyed, roads destroyed and not passable it is understandable how things got very hard for FEMA. I am not saying FEMA has not made some big mistakes but I am not sure how exactly you prepare for enormous mud slides, disastrous flooding and terrific wind damage over such a huge area.
