  1. you could see that plant start to revive as soon as you started getting rid of those mealy bugs… aren't they gross? hopefully, you got 'em all… that arrangement you did in the greenhouse is so sweet… i'd love to know what the gray/silver plant is!! reminds me of seaweed, lol… it's very unusual… i need to find some mini poinsettias, too… how cute are those!!! looks like a chilly but beautiful day outside!! what a satisfying and honest video, thanks for the lesson on meallies…. 🥰❤thanks for the video!! 🥰❤

  2. That is so gross I had a rosemary go that way and finally had to throw it out after cleaning it three times. Your amaryllis’s are getting there I hope they bloom at Christmas time for you.

  3. I feel better about my plants knowing even you can miss some infestation, Laura. Thanks for your honesty and transparency. It’s all part of gardening. 😊

  4. Laura, you're so kind to give it so much care. I'm not sure I could save it and not think about having missed any. I'm afraid I'd have to toss and start over.

  5. Great info on mealy bugs. Gross.
You are amazing with the year old arrangement! I would have started over! But you saved the plants and added new interest. Awesome!

  6. Thank you Laura. I've had a mealy bug situation for a while now on a corn plant with a pothos around the trunk of the plant. I've tried many different things and those critters continue to return. After watching your video, I realize they are probably in the soil. Good to know.

  7. Hi Laura! Thanks for this and I wish you luck with your small infestation. I would seriously consider throwing out that plant! You do not want mealybug on your myrtle topiaries! Believe me…I speak from experience. They are impossible to eradicate on the myrtles especially as they get larger!

  8. Great tips! But, I think this should have been your Halloween episode! All the creepy crawly things … Oh look, our little Spider friend! 🕷 Does anything freak you out?

  9. You’re right, the mealy bug infestation is gross! It was good to see how to treat a plant with this issue. Very educational and I’m always wanting to learn more about PLANTS! Good job Laura!

  10. Ok, so that wasn’t the video to watch while eating breakfast. Hahaha. I usually watch your videos every morning to start my day off right. I really appreciate how “real” you are. If we are honest we all have things we aren’t proud of, your transparency is refreshing. Thank you for sharing your real with us.

  11. Bummer but thank you for sharing your mealy bug experience. I think every gardener experiences it at least once. I had a huge jade tree where the war had to be won and I did literally spray it with alcohol. I surrendered and found the jade a new home when I discovered the giant ash tree in our yard had them.. Funny how the mealys seem to prefer succulents and I have never had a Hoya that did not get them… Great lesson for new gardeners…

  12. Ugh! Mealy bugs!!! I had the cutest collection of succulents! I just lived them!!! Then, one day, I saw a few of those nasty critters on one plant. I cleaned it off with alcohol and sprayed everything, just in case. I checked them daily and low and behold, they cropped up on that plant and 2 others. I fought thrm for about 6 months until I gave up and threw them all out and that was that! I haven't tried them since and I probably won't. I have a remnant of a night blooming syrus (sp) that was 20 years old and huge!, and another one that I cannot remember the name of, right now, and that is all that remains of the succulent type plants in my house. I hate thos blasted bugs. I loved my little succulent collection and they stole all the joy I could ever have with them! I hope this takes care of your infestation, Laura, and I hope that anyone else who has suffered at the hands of these miscreants has bettee success than I did at fighting them! Ugh!!!

  13. I just saw a presentation at my Garden Club by a young guy who studied earthworms in college. He and a friend developed a product from earthworm waste called Wriggle Brew Growth and Rescue. Although developed as a fertilizer, they discovered that by spraying it on plants , spider mites and mealy bugs that may be affecting the plant die, and the plant becomes stronger, and will produce an enzyme that will make the plant unattractive to spider mites and mealy bugs. Would you consider trying this on your plants?

  14. I have a poinsettia from before covid times. hasn't bloomed once for me, and doesn't look very happy, but it's alive. I wish I knew how to make it happier than this

  15. Yes me too, whole plant would have been thrown away. No patience for that. I admire your dedication & showing everyone the process though.

  16. Identifying and treating pest and disease issues is my weakness in the gardening world. I very much appreciated the tutorial on how to identify and treat mealy bugs. Curious minds want to know just how you got all that dirt out of the sink after you dissected the plant under the water. That was a lot of work since it seemed heavily infested. To be honest, I'm not sure I would have spent that much time and effort trying to save it. Did you do this for the purpose of making a tutorial or do you try to save most everything?

  17. I use RoseCare3 it is a contact insecticide and also an antifungal. I also use teaspoon dishwash liquid on a liter of water
Last year I lost all of my succulents due to mealy bugs😢

  18. This was so helpful! Thank you for showing us (1) that even the best plant parents get bug infestations and (2) how to handle it if we do and (3) how to reuse plants from year to year in arrangements. There is something about the red and white arrangement that makes my heart sing. ❤

  19. Laura, my oldest granddaughter jumped with joy that the internet was back up. She yelled, "Yay, we can watch Garden Answer!" 😅😅

  20. Bonide also makes granules you can treat the plant with. I have had a plant this badly infested that i actually sprayed daily and sprinkled the granules in to the plant and within a week or so i didn't see them again in the plant.

  21. Nope Nope I would have pitched the plant out. So many bugs. Yuck.😂😂😂
Nice arrangement. Thanks for sharing this with us.🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
