Hi All, I’m in the process of replacing a small retaining wall in my garden. I’m using h4 treated pine throughout the project and the height will be 400mm.

Do I need to add draining given the size of the wall? I’m reluctant to do it because I don’t want to have to cut the lawn back any smaller. If I do need to do it? How important is it to run it off into storm water drains?

Any general advice around this appreciated

    This should help!

I just built a wall and left a minimum 3-4” of space behind the wall for crushed drain rock separated from the soil by geo-fabric. If you water your lawn, I assume a gap for drainage will be even more important.

I wasn’t going to put in a drain pipe behind the wall – we have very porous sandy soil – but ended up going with the pipe because I am cautious.
