Too much cold water is harmful for plants
Growing a cutting in a potatoe DOES NOT WORK. It just grows potatoe plants!!
The ice cube advice is no good. The melted water will be too cold for the plant roots.

I use onion skins to make soup but this is interesting too! Will definitely be using some of these tips.
For insulation, simply place styrofoam (saved from packaging of electrical appliances) under the pots on the window sills.
1) copper pennies in the soil to inhibit fungus
2) leftover tea as fertiliser
3) ice cubes for steady watering
4) vinegar to acidify soil eg for ferns
5) wood ash to add potash to soil
6) insulate pots with wool socks
7) onion skins soaked in water or in soil
8) matchsticks in soil for Mg
9) crush eggshells in soil for calcium
10) wipe off dust on leaves
11) eggshells as seed starters
12) banana peel tea for nutrients
13) coffee filters in pots to hold soil together
14) pantyhose to hold plants together gently
15) wooden skewers to test soil moisture
16) aerate soil with chopsticks
17) make newspaper pots for seedlings as its biodegradable
18) make a humidity tray with pebbles and water tray
19) put plants like ferns and orchids in the shower when you shower for the humodity
20) stick a rose cutting into a potato
21) use dead standing seed stock as mulch
22) sprinkle cinnamon on seedlings- to protect against fungus
23) sprinkle baking soda on soil protect against fungus
24) 10-10-10 fertiliser rule (10% nitrogen, 10% phosphorus, 10% potassium)
25) water with aquarium fish water
26) wipe leaves with milk to clean them and shine them
27) coffee grounds to soil (nitrogen)
28) charcoal to terrariums to absorb excess moisture
29) pencil shavings as mulch
30) old sponges for drainage
31) fish scales to soil as fertiliser
32) epsom salt in water for flowering plants
33) cover plants with plastic bags for extra humidity
34) spray vinegar for ant control
35) aloe vera gel to heal plant wounds/ cuts on leaves/ bark
36) dilute spoilt milk to compost tea
