What a busy productive day GA!
Sorry about your locust tree Laura 🤗.
At the front gate, you may need a sign with directional arrows for the rouge drivers on how to turn around without hitting anything! lol.
As you need to redo the walkway from car to the kitchen, you can redesign all the pathways in that area. You can move the pathway from kitchen to fireplace more aside, and you gain more place for pathway from cars to the kitchen,so you eliminate the right turn that bothers you.
“Barn’s burnt down, now I can see the moon.” My favorite saying that pertains to so much in our lives.
Which systemic do you use for your lilacs? I am dealing eith borers too.😢 They are the worst.
The older tree is crokard at tope
So sorry to see your locust tree gone…..
You were wise to remove the tree 🤗, it’s little heart had gone it was a stunning tree and I totally understand your sadness, but you have saved so many this year the tree god will be very thankful to you🥰.
A tree either side of the gate …. I’m 60 and a half 😂🤣 and I hope to see so many of your trees mature over the years to come.
I can’t help but rewatch the first of this years trees with lights, your neighbours are so lucky to get to see the magic happening.
Take care xx xx
@gardenanswer would you please link the mail vault that you selected?
Every time I see arborists my heart sinks. Especially when they are taking down old, large trees. It's sad.
Will your insurance cover costly gate repairs when impatient idiots without insurance hit them? 😅
What a busy day!! I completely understand how jarring it is to lose a nice big, old tree 😣 I’m with you, I can’t look until it’s over. I had been working on revitalizing a 30’ tall blue spruce in front of our house for 2 years, right when it was coming along really good… and my husband had it removed, stump included 😣 I felt so over exposed for 2 years afterwards!! I’m finally used to it and have new ideas for right there 😊
With so many different plants and trees which require fertilizers, treatments, etc. How do you keep track of what is planted where and when to go about treating them?
Would you considerer putting a Mallad Tree farm tree there?
Incredible! Love this so much!
You said you are building a shed ten feet from what appears to be your property line. No wonder your neighbors houses are so close to yours. Our town has a 30’ boundary from any property line.
Oh, that one hurt my heart even though it needed to be done. Trees are like family to me and I am very nostalgic for their company. That removal was absolutely top notch though. Thanks for letting us process with you.
You have such great design ideas for around the gated area. Putting in the maple tree really looks so much better. I can't wait to see the new brickwork and landscaping in that area!
😢🌴sorry
Like many other viewers, I appreciate the joy you bring to my day. Your videos always feel like islands of safety, sanity, and inspiration. I am grieving along with you at the loss of your locust tree.
We had a couple of fruitless mulberry trees that we had to take down because of this type rot. They were in the front of our yard which faces west so we really miss them. They helped shade our entry.
Just curious about the cost of that size tree removal?
I would shop for another Locust tree. 😍😍
I cry every time an older tree is cut down. I know sometimes it has to happen because they can fall and hurt someone or damage property but they are such wise old living beings it hurts my heart a little each time one dies.
A dead plant is just an opportunity for a new plant(s). Will you plant an extra Autumn Blaze Maple some where else on the property just to have an extra on hand? Seems like having this "extra" maple was very helpful. Thanks for the wonderful videos.
You might not have to bring the water truck over, we just got snow in Utah and you might get some soon too…maybe
When you save and re-use plant containers, do you wash them first and/or sterilise them before storing/replanting into them?
If you suspect a tree has rot but isn’t showing any signs of stress what would you do? We have a mature cherry tree that provides privacy but it’s definitely rotting on the inside. There’s even birds living in the trunk.
Love all the information on the locust tree!
Hey Laura….you can replace the big Locust tree with a Chitalpa tree!!!! You did say that both you and Aaron love that tree. It would look amazing and the scent would be amazing.
The maple next to the gate is amazing! When it comes time to remove the grass on the left side of the gate, remove the fencing as well! That will add nice balance and way more planting options!!
I know your heart hurts now, but we all know you will bring that area back to new life soon.
I have that rot happening in several mature trees in my yard. You need to get that stuff out of there. That tree probably infected the lilac. I had a 25 year old red delicious apple tree that actually produced apples the way they used to taste. Two years ago it got the fungus. What a mess. I had to take the whole thing down. I burn all that wood. It does not go into the wood stove woodpile it just gets burned on the brush pile as quickly as possible. I have replaced several trees now I started an entire orchard but I’m not sure I will live long enough to see them mature. It’s okay I feel like it is my legacy to leave something beautiful for someone else to enjoy.
It DOES spread
Beautiful Locust tree, thank you for your love, care and service you brought 🙏💚
Heart rot usually starts from damage that the tree sustained when young or damage that became encapsulated by the tree that the rot had already set in. It’s a common occurrence.
🌸
I nursed a 200+-year-old massive European Copper Beech for years, but in the end, the age, the borers, and beech leaf diseases that are taking all of these gorgeous trees down here in the northeast finally brought us to the decision to take it down. I am not a terribly sentimental person, but I wept when I made that call. I could not watch the removal. I remember when it was healthy, standing under the canopy and you could not see the sky, it was so majestic and dense. Neighbors came by to offer their condolences, as everyone loved that tree. What was full shade is now a full sun area and I am embracing the possibilities.
Everything looks amazing!
So sad seeing the tree come down. I know whatever you do with the area it will be beautiful!
I feel your loss. I get it. I couldn't even be home when my neighbor took down some huge pine trees. You'll get that "homey" feeling again. Now that's its done… time to look at what you can do now!
Sad to see it go😢 but it will be great to see the new plantings to come
Breaks my heart to see a big guy removed it's so emotional and sad but life happens it was so beautiful.
I had a Silver Maple that must have had heart rot. I didn't know what happened to it until you described heart rot. It had mushrooms on it and around it. Boy, it cost a lot of money to remove, even though it was all hollowed out.
