As high summer temperatures linger longer into fall, November joins October as a prime planting month in the low desert. Short seasons mean we need to get our fall gardens planted so they can get established before the days become short and cool.
If you haven’t already, it’s time to plant your fall vegetables, herbs, and flowers. If you did most of your planting during October, use these planting lists to fill in empty spots in your beds and garden. Maximize your growing space and take advantage of the fall and winter growing seasons.
Vegetables:
Start with brassicas like broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, and kale—great choices for succession planting to ensure a continuous harvest throughout the fall. I’ll show you how to plant these so your garden stays productive. This is also a great month to plant greens like lettuce, arugula, spinach, and collard greens. Want to grow root vegetables? November is ideal for carrots, beets, turnips, and radishes—I’ll share some tricks for germinating those tricky carrot seeds to ensure a better yield. Plant celery from transplants or cut-off ends.
Herbs:
October is perfect for perennial herbs like rosemary, thyme, sage, mint, and annual herbs like parsley, cilantro, dill, and borage. Plant these now to enjoy fresh herbs through the winter and beyond.
Flowers:
Add a splash of color to your garden this fall with flowers! October is the time to plant poppies, calendula, sweet peas, and nasturtiums directly from seed. I’ll also show you the easiest fall flowers to grow from transplants like snapdragons, geraniums, and blue salvia—perfect for a beautiful garden that blooms until next spring. You can also plant bulbs like daffodils, tulips, and ranunculus for stunning blooms in the spring.

I love your videos and subscribed you already. I am wondering if all these plants and herbs I can plant them in my small patio? Any suggestions? I live in Scottsdale. Thank you!
Hi, I am late getting my garlic in because I ran out of fish emulsion for the pre soak. Is there an alternative for the soak prior to planting?
How do I get your Calendar?
love your videos!! newbie to gardening and your videos have been so helpful!
Hi Angela, I love this video. You're getting ready for the cooler season here in New Zealand we are geering up for our summer season next month 😊
Hi, I think I’m having seed issues? How long can you keep seeds stored? Do you buy new seeds every season? I’ve been planting lettuce from older seed packs; nothing coming up, even indoors? Help!
Hi Angela, this was a great video for me for my fall flowers. I’m not in AZ, I’m in FL, but 10b, a little more humid though obviously 😂 But I just planted up some dahlia tubers in large containers, but I’m wondering what you suggest for planting around the base of them? Since they are so tall, I’m not sure what flowers would look best. I do not get a freeze here. Thanks 😊
Excited to plant copious amounts of broccoli varieties. 🌱🥦🌱😄
Is it possible to plant potatoes now in my zone 7a?
Hi Angela! I just found your channel and am starting a garden with my daughter. I encountered a problem though- the spot that we cleared for our garden bed gets plenty of sunlight in the summer but I noticed this week that the sun barely hits it, if at all, this time of year. So now I am wondering if our fall/winter vegetables will even grow if we begin to plant. It really is the best spot in our yard space wise and how close it is to our water source. What would you recommend?
Just wanting to check to see if YT will allow me to comment on anything. Mostly they delete my comments, regardless of how uncontroversial they might be.
Can’t wait for the flower guide ❤
What kind of fertilizer do you use? And do you use it for both veggies & flowers? TIA
I would love to see winter flowers
I love your garden.
Wonderful! Thank you!
Where did you get your hanging baskets 😍
Where can I find those cute signs 🪧? Thanks
