A Bumper Tomato Harvest, from the Vegetable Garden.
Join me today in the Vegetable Garden were I’m harvesting some Tomatoes, both Beefsteak and Cherry Tomatoes, along with some Basil and Stawberries.
The tomato is the edible fruit of the plant Solanum lycopersicum, commonly known as the tomato plant. The species originated in western South America, Mexico, and Central America.
Tomatoes are a significant source of umami flavor.
They are consumed in diverse ways: raw or cooked, and in many dishes, sauces, salads, and drinks. Great looking harvest, Mick! I had no idea cherry tomatoes have been around for so long – I thought they were a more recently developed variety. I grew a tomato plant indoors for a few years until it finally petered out. The last summer it produced some almost microscopic-sized tomatoes, too tiny to cook with, but wow, they really packed a punch in taste! So I definitely agree, homegrown is much better.
