One cultural "norm" I personally would love to get rid of is things need to be child friendly. Not everything has to revolve around you crotch fruit. And I say this as a step parent(before anyone whines I don't understand.. Shut it) I love my kids(yeah I get the mothers day cards, and if any one hurt them I would make their worst nightmares seem like playtime….but..also not every place has to include a place for kids. Very new to the kink community. I learned about the hanky code earlier this year outside of just hearing about it being a thing gay men did in the 80s before we had electricity and cars. Kidding. I'd had a gloss over knowledge that it was a thing but didn't really know about it. I think lots of people are coming from this space.
I did attempt to recreate it in a way that made more sense to me for me, and only for me. It was me musing. I like colors and organization. I sent one text to a friend explaining my rationale for one change. I agree with you that much of this stuff causes confusion and may well put people, especially kids, in danger.
I'm very happy to see it evolve though. I think what is important is context. "This is my version of the hanky code. Please do not recreate it or repost w/o context…." I'm good with stuff like that.
The funny thing is that the Locketober hashtag was started by Heartstopper fans after season 3 was released. People just thought it was funny that Joe Locke’s only TV credits are 2 major projects that ended up running concurrently in October.
The problem with satire is that more and more people lack reading comprehension, so they loose the whole point and take it as something truthful and serious. Like you could make a post saying:
"ATT, SATIRE AHEAD!!: oh my goodness, I'm so tired of this straight people flaunting their lifestile around" and someone will undoubfully come at you yelling about "how dare you hate on straight people, that's why everyone hates all the likes of you" missing the whole point.

Well firstly this seems like a really misogynistic-esque challenge in general, but also to play devil's advocate here…. Words and names can be used to describe different things in language. Language is alive and changing all the time, so if they really hadn't heard of the term before… I wouldn't really say that they were being stupid, but definitely a bit ignorant. I think saying that people can never use or come up with an idea with the same name as locktober is a bit weird to me. That being said… Every post that the original person made afterwards is pretty disgusting. It very much seems like they're trying to erase or demonize the term locktober and it's roots in the kink community.

I don't really get why people couldn't use the idea of having colored items and make it something other than bandanas so it's easy to differentiate. Like, a particular type of bracelet or friendship braid or something, in different colors. Surely there must be convenient options other than bandanas.

While I understand what the kid was doing trying to make their own handkerchief code, the idea to make a to communicate with others when danger may be around, again as amp said, research a quick google thing would help void potential problems like this.
When I was in Middle School there was a trend going around called the safety pin project. I don't know if anyone remembers it but it was really cool. (I think I even remember seeing some government/state officials wearing safety pins once word got out a bit more and even a few of my family members who were on the police force.) I was really into it and even after it died down I kept my safety pin on and visible just in case someone else knew and needed help for years. I always thought adding the smaller perler beads to help signal what kind of help you could offer or if you needed help would have been great but I never really had a social media presence then or a way to talk about it in the first place.
With the way things are going who knows…. I'll do a little more research on that again and see if it would help for me to wear the pin once more.
