Let’s sow seeds!! Today, I’m going to show you how to start a garden from scratch with seeds to not only get quick food but also minimize weeds, so you can have a low-maintenance, super-productive garden! I’m also going to share why I’m not using mulch this year and a few tips and tricks for managing pests the easy way.

My garden beds are all refreshed from my previous video with fresh soil but there are still a few things left behind that I am saving seeds from or are growing as perennials. I’ve also found a few volunteer tomatoes pop up in other areas so I have transplanted some of those.

  1. Do you direct sow in your garden? I now predominately direct sow because its so hot and dry and I'm just not into babysitting seed trays😂 I get most of my seeds from Julie with her locally grown seeds as well as being the WA supplier of Seed Freaks which are all Australian grown! https://www.down2earthgardening.com.au/

  2. Your garden is looking so good holly! I am here for the cheap and productive way yo grow a garden! 😍🙌💚🍎

  5. I picked up some seeds from Down2Earth at the Wandering fair the other weekend, such wonderful people! I had no idea they existed, and ive been buying veg seeds for almost 10 years, didnt come up in a single google search. I love a WA based seed company!

  6. Love Love Love Seed freaks :). I found this interesting. Thanks heaps Holly :). Just wondering, Where did you get your beds from?

  7. I start our Capsicum seeds inside in old sliced cheese containers, which make the perfect hot house. I place some folded tissue in the bottom add water and then place the seeds inside, close the lid and place on shelf and get almost 100% success every time :). We have a cheap metal shelf from bunnings in front of our sliding glass doors, which gets filtered sunlight and warmth each day. Just perfect :). You can also use window ledge, if that's all you have :). You Perthies are soooo darn lucky with all the freebie access you guys have. Our coffee grounds are $5 a bucket and that's when you can get them which is not very often.

  8. I'm also in Perth and am going to adopt your recommendation on trying armenian cucumbers this year. Anything that can survive the scorching that is ahead of us! And thanks for the info about down2earth, I had never heard of them. Useful for local tomato seeds given WA can't buy them from interstate at the moment.

  9. Gaz and Julie from Down2Earth are great, I’ve got a bunch of their seeds already in and growing well. It’s been a hot week, so glad to see some lower temps on the cards!
