After two weeks of 100 to 110 degree temps, my unshaded front yard garden is done for. It really drives home the importance of shade cloth when gardening through ultra-hot summers.

Everything else is still going strong. I’ve now harvested almost 300 pounds of tomatoes for the year and most other crops keep trickling in.

  1. Your garden looks great! I see the dramatic difference between the shade cloth area and uncovered. I need to figure out a set up. We did have a record high of 119°. I had to Chelsea chop my flowers back. We'll see if they can recover. Stay cool!

  2. Using a shade cloth is not the only option you had. There is another option to grow on hot days, but it has to be prepared before growing something. I never tried it myself. Because currently I do not have the space to try to build what I saw. What I saw should provide plants with a good temperature, but as far as I am concerned work has to be done to prepare what I saw, and space is definitely needed!

Try to remember that temperature is an important factor, for growing, and temperature has to be controlled while growing, or else…

  3. I am so thankful you suggested that I get a sun cloth because it literally saved my garden. This summer has been brutal!
