Creating a Cozy Outdoor Living Space: The New Screened Veranda | The Preppy Gardener (2024)



Welcome back to Okarga Farms! I’m thrilled to unveil our latest project: a custom-designed screened veranda that’s quickly becoming our favorite outdoor living space. Nestled on the east side of our garage and overlooking the barn and potting shed, this veranda is perfect for entertaining and relaxing in nature, with ample room for gatherings and design details that make it truly special.

In this video, I’ll walk you through the design choices we made, from the grand stone fireplace (built to frame an antique-look mirror) to the reclaimed wooden mantel. We’ve customized every detail with a mix of materials like Hackett stone and Sherwin Williams Black Fox. This screened porch also features a wall that doubles as a windbreak, perfect for those gusty Oklahoma days. I’ll also share a few insights from my background in interior and garden design, showing how each element ties together beautifully.

    The mirror, clock, mantle & coffee table are amazing. I guess you can tell I’m into the rustic stuff. LOL!!! I can just picture at Christmas time the mantel with lit garland draping the sides. Such a great space. You’re a great host. Keep up the good work.
