We are Dan & Laurie and our land is called Freedom Forest – Its 3 acres in the South of England where we are creating an edible oasis and trying to provide as much for ourselves, from our land as possible, where we are completely off grid.
Our food growing journey began together in 2017 when we created our first No dig lasagne bed. Every year we grow more and more and now we are currently around 60-80% self sufficient in ALL of our food needs.
Our style and methods are inspired by permaculture and we try to be thoughtful about how and what we do, to be as gentle on the planet as possible.

We are MASSIVELY grateful that you choose to watch our Videos and support us in this way, however, If you appreciate and get value from what we share and would like to help us a little more, you can become a Freedom Forest Patreon (link below). In return your name will appear in the end credits of our videos and we’ll message you a password for the ‘members area’ of our website where we share a few more of our favourite recipes exclusively for our Patreon’s 💚

  1. That tromboncino harvest looks immense, and the massive one should be entered in a show! My fruits are all smaller than last years, but they are grown in a less than ideal situation so it's good to just get any sort of harvest of them.
With the rat issue, keep a close eye on your garlic this winter. I lost much of my crop last winter to the vermin when they dug most of it up. Agree on the compost spreading season….got mine to do in the coming weeks. Can't agree though on pulling out the marigolds early…..i have to leave mine in the ground until they die back naturally…..after the display they've given they deserve a few more weeks of cheery colour.

  2. Loving your intro – the aerial view of your paradise is superb. So sorry about your sweet potatoes. I’m harvesting mine next week. Pushing it to the very limit this year because of how poor the weather has been. The leaves are still relatively green so🤞. I bought some “snake” seeds earlier this year but ran out of space to plant. Hopefully I’ll plant one or two next year. My normal courgette did very well. Planted mini pumpkins for the first time and currently overwhelmed with the harvest. I’m not sure why they did so well despite the weather but I’m not complaining 😊. My Yacon is showing no sign of stopping. I can still see new leaf growth and multiple flowers on each plants. My flowers are the most difficult to pull out. The marigolds are still looking strong. The nasturtiums are more vibrant now than they were a month ago. I’ll keep both going for as long as they keep flowering because I can still see bees buzzing on them every day. I’ll pull the other flowers next week. Your ‘snake’ harvest looks amazing. I hope you get the bigger chestnuts soon. The tree looks great. I’m jealous of your winter leaf selection. I only have different types of kale and cabbage as well as carrots and beetroots. I got some Asian green seeds but never got round sowing them because ‘life happens’. Maybe next year. Thanks for another amazing update. I really appreciate it!!!

  3. Have you heard of "Thelma Sanders Sweet Potatoe Squash"? They say the taste and texture is very similar to sweet potatoes. I'm going to grow this squash next year. Maybe that could be an alternative if you should lose this crop to rats again… 🍀👨‍🌾🌿

  4. The garden looks so beautiful from above, it looks like a colorful picture. I love gardening and harvesting with my family. Thank you for sharing these beautiful pictures.
