We finished harvesting our first garden at our off grid property. We grew potatoes, onions and popcorn. It was a small harvest, but we are new at this and learned a lot! Come along for the process.

  1. Northern Ontario here. Zone 3 gardening. You did a wonderful job with your garden! Yes every you learn more and it gets better. We did tom thumb as well this year! We are doing oaxaca green dent corn. Yes the variety of flint or dent corn makes a difference if it needs further processing for cornmeal. But its not hard and as time goes and gardening in a new climate you will discover what works best for you and your family.😊

  2. Onions need to be weed free they don't grow as well if not. If they are the only things you weed next year make them a priority. By the way I absolutely love your channel one of my favourites 😂

  3. Your first time growing in a new place is always difficult. Each year you will learn so don’t get discouraged. Any harvest is a blessing.

  4. I just got a lovely + large supply of heirlooms seeds from Heritage Harvest seeds, very excited to see the Tom Thumb pop corn, as that's one of the varieties of corn I got. I can't wait for next years growing season to begin! Blessings to you and yours! I look forward to more of your videos!

  5. Привіт з України. В нас попкорн не дуже популярний а ось молочну кукурудзу/ це де волосіння біле/ відварюємо підсолюємо і їмо))). Мій син живе Манітобі. Вдачі вам.

  6. Nice looking potatoes, most people’s gardens fall apart at the end of the season, you still get food. You will grow and learn, it’s a wonderful feeling. Onions will rot if left in too long

  7. Mice and voles will eat potatoes. They got my whole harvest this year. Granted in the last 10yrs we have only have 3 years we grew more than we planted…we would be terrible Irish

  8. Very interesting. Love how you broke free. Where in Canada do you live? This winter will be your first? Will be following your progress. Sub and 👍213

  9. Your onions are small because of heavy weed competition. For your first garden, you did great! I found this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HATC3rG6NbQ to be very helpful, and perhaps it can help you to prepare your garden for spring planting, before it snows, by using some of the techniques shown in this video. Thank you for taking the time to document your journey.

  10. I believe that traditionally dent corn is used for cornmeal rather than flint corn. I would assume variety would play a huge part in the flavor.

  11. Just happened upon this video & channel. I am sitting here in Georgia, USA cheering you on!! This is the life I wanted for myself & it didn't happen & now my health won't let me… Your little helper is beautiful & she is getting a great life & education…. Subscribed & off to watch more of you. Blessings~

  12. Дорога мамо,одінь дитину! Ти ж в ждинсах ,в чоботах і в куртці,а дівчинка в платтячку.. малі діти не люблять одягатися, але потім проблеми з нирками і застуда
