Plant & Technology Rant: yesterday my phone (Nexus 5X) went into the dreaded “bootloop”, where it gets stuck on the Google screen but doesn’t start up. A friend of mine explained that people nowadays assume a phone upgrade cycle of about 2 years, which I think is ridiculous given how expensive they are. This got me thinking about house plants in the same way – what I called “the subjective lifespan” – where a plant lasts as long as you deem it worthwhile to care for. Even in great light and knowing when to water and repot, only some house plants stay nice looking for more than a few years. Anyway, I did some tricky modifications to my phone to bypass the problem at the expense of performance…these snake plants are performing much better than my phone!
