we are getting ready to start a new garden project but first we need to get rid of these weeds in this large area. I want to do it all at once.
Sandy Bottom Homestead was started to supplement our food supply. By Gardening and raising chickens we have been able to meet that goal and start to surpass it. Follow us as we continue to build out our homestead and become better gardeners.

Good frosty 31° morning.
I'm planning on shallow tilling a couple times then putting a heavy layer of leaves on top to over winter.
Have a great day!!
Jeff from East Tennessee. It’s perfect weather here. Beautiful with morning temp around 50 degrees.
Look at you. Make a plan and get out and make it happen. I love traps. I love buckwheat. Weeds are bad in my garden right now. Yes I am going to use traps. I have 2 – 20ft. By 20ft. Traps. Going to buy more. Yes they are expensive but they last and will save you a ton of work fighting weeds.
Just yesterday, I finished up with my Okra patch!! It is very weedy. Yes this is crazy but I am going to run a weed eater over this area. Rake everything out and till it up good. Smooth it out and tarp it. I have done this before and it works. Great video!!!
Now do you have a big rototiller?? Something that can get deeper down.
great project you got will be doing
Flax, for those who might want to try harvesting the bast fiber and possibly making their own cordage, will make a mat of roots so thick as to keep weeds from moving in.
Thyme, especially (I think?) winter thyme, also makes a very dense mat, but I'm not sure how easily you can get rid of the thyme later on if you want or need to do that.
"Weed bank." I like it. "Weed seed bank," also comes to mind, or "Weedseed bank," with weed plus seed making one word.
I'm amazed your goldenrod is multiplying so slowly; I inherited a patch of it with my property; the black rasperries I planted next to the goldenrod have nearly choked it out, but it re-established itself next to the grapevines (and I need to move it back to where it used to live and, most likely, uproot the raspberries or at least discipline them better; if the raspberries are to be removed from that bed then I'll grow a couple of them in big containers and give the goldenrod more of its old space near the back door. Anyone comment, please, if that's a poorly considered idea.)
Much gardening love from Northeast Ohio! 😊💚💚💚💚💚😊
Razors really are dangerous. But even worse is the "safety" razor blades. You have to push forward for the blade to stay out, but then you need to put force on things in an opposite direction. Just a dumb thing that warehouses think are better for their employees.
Do you have golden rod
Do you have golden rod
have you used a propane weed torch ?
I use old tarp with holes and that’s how I kill the grass over 1 season than fill the area with compost and the weeds that come up are few and if some come up that tells me I need to put more compost there. That and picking them too which they come out easy because of the compost. Spring is the only time I really go hard on picking weeds. Also I have logs dividing my garden area so that when I mow it limits the weed seeds being blown in into my garden.
This man has never been bitten on his arms by mosquitoes, lol, look at all that hair (no disrespect btw just little joke)
