👩🏻🦰 A B O U T M E:
Ashley has had a passion for plants since she was a small child. In the long summers as a child, she would garden alongside her grandmother and it was then that she realized her love for greenery. With years of great studying, Ashley had begun her post-secondary education at the University of Saskatchewan.
At first, her second love, animals, was the career path she chose but while doing her undergrad she realized that her education would take her elsewhere. And with that, four years later she graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a bachelor’s degree in science and a major in Soil Science.
Some of Ashley’s interests are YouTube, in which she posts informative videos about plants and gardening. The focus of Ashley’s YouTube channel is to bring science to gardening in a way that is informative but also helpful to others learning to garden. She also talks about the importance of having your own garden and the joys of gardening indoors. Ashley continues to study plants in her free time and hopes to expand her YouTube channel as well as her reach to up-and-coming gardeners.

I highly recommend the peas planted everywhere. I kept finding peas in places I forgot about all year
Im from Denmark, and never heard of Copenhagen Cabbage 😳
Im gonna try peas in the fall, thanks 👍🏼
“I’m in one of the lowest climates in Canada”
The Yukon sends its regards. You know nothing Joanne Snow ❄️ Winter is coming
What temperature are you waiting for to try this? You don't want seeds to germinate now, on warmer days, then be frozen, right? Thanks!
we are so far from eachother but when i see your videos i feel that you are so close to me ❤
Really appreciate your content. I have a surplus of dried peas from spring that I was going to put in a jar until spring but now half of them will go in the ground this week to see 🤞
Ashley! You just timed this one perfectly. My husband went and got a trailer of organics for me this morning (so grateful) and you drop this video. I'm going to throw in some beets and squash seeds into that wonderful new bed and report back next spring. The seeds are old so if they don't grow then I can put in new seeds. Got to try. Thanks so much. Marianne.
Thank you, awesome 👍😎
Would raised bed gardening work for fall sowing? Perennials don't alway survive in raised beds because of all sides being exposed to the cold. Anyone who says mints can become invasive… i don't have that problem, so you know it's cold here!😂 Southeast Manitoba.
Pea shoots are also a food.
I don't think you mentioned it.
Not sure what kind of peas are best for shoots but you can probably eat any tender shoots.
Chinese food.
Saute quickly with garlic, or eat as a salad, maybe.
Very tasty.
Right on time with this topic 🎉
No kidding, this video is just in time for me!! I'm going to take advantage of tomorrow and get some seeds into the garden beds. I need to pay a king's ransom to find fine mulch, so I have to get straw or wood chips.
Ashley, did I hear correctly? We can sow carrots in Fall? Also, if peas can be sown could the same be done with beans?
If edible peas can be planted in the fall, does that mean i can fall plant sweet peas??
Chives in the ground or in a pot are a good indicator of whether spring is really here. You can just keep some in the same old pot and neglect them for years at a time, but they just keep plugging along.
Broad Beans work good for us
I am way more hospitable than yours. Thank you!
Do brussel sprouts do ok in our zone 3 in Canada?
What about planting in the fall when it rains a WHOLE LOT all the time?
😂My parsnips seed themselves now I just let them flower here and there and work around them😂for like 5 years or more now they seed themselves
Same as carrots but I think most of them are queen Anne's lace now or a cross of them
Yes fluffy helps but I use lots of mulch or they come up in the lawn around the garden 😂Gotta love a food forest type garden
So…. thoughts on sowing cannabis seeds in fall? They're a hardy seed, so I would assume if a dainty carrot seed will take after a winter season surly a cannabis seed would but have never heard it suggested before.
Oooh I wish I had a seed or two left to try! …..couldn't possibly be worse success rate than I had with spring sowing this year anyway. lol, & ffs!
💚💚
Does this wk for raised gardens beds or just planting in the ground?
I particularly loved this video. What do you think about sowing rutabega in fall? I love them, but have struggled growing them. Thanks
I have flowers that self seed and I can move them by winter sowing. Giant blue hyssop, French mallow, nasturtium, borage. Mustard, arugula work well too.
I like to let my dandelions go crazy, I use them as planting indicators. Ha ha my version of winter planting squash is just having squash in the compost.
