I seen moles on my property. They are nocturnal. Voles, I don't know if I have them. Hopefully not. Thqt would freak me out for either one of them to move on my arm and run out
I have some rodents eating the roots of my plants. Then the bunnies eat all the foilage of my plants. Why bother planting. I am just feeding the wildlife.
I feel the beauty of a fall garden is the leaves all about adding that sound and covering things… As always, I enjoy trips to see your parents' place!

Does info on plants change depending on where (zone) you buy them? My Green Mountain tags say 2-3' high and wide. You said 5' x 3'. I am southern Ontario, across from Detroit. 🤷♀️ 6b-7a
I encountered my first vole when I lived in western Oregon. Turns out… I don’t “love all animals.” 😂

Hi Laura, what if anything can be done to prevent voles from returning to nest in the pots?
I am chomping at the bit to get after my yard, still in the mid-90's though and the heat makes me sick. I took too long running my errands last week and by the time I got home it was mid-90's and it was all I had left in me to get those groceries inside and the cold stuff put away! Looking forward to Fall and Winter temperatures! 8:15-ish Mixed seed packs: I have an experiment for you. If you buy a mixed seed packet, plant them, then when they come up and bloom tag the colors, then when they start to fade remove the plants you don't care for and let the keepers go to seed. Replant them in the spring and see what you get. I know with hybrid seeds you never know what will come up, but it might be fun and then you'd have a supply of the colors you like best. 😃

I half screamed when you said he had those critters on his hands!!!!! AAAAHH!! It’s true that Nature finds a way…we put up a 6’ high chain link fence because of deer pressure, and something kept sampling items in my garden….I would find a small spot under the fence that something dug under. I’d block it, then another spot would appear…one day I went out early and face to face with a dang rabbit!!!

Talking about your parents limbing up their maples – would you show or maybe already have a video of limbing up a more MATURE maple? Ours is 12 years old – I’ve asked my hubby to cut off the lower branches but he tells me they’ll grow up as the tree grows. Which they’re not – so best way to limb up without damaging the trees longevity. Thanks!!

How can you stop voles from coming back to the 3 containers at your parents house ?
