Striped and spotted cucumber beetles are major pests of cucumber, squash, pumpkin, muskmelon, and other garden plants. The adult beetles feed on leaves, flower petals, and fruit. This can lead to the transmission of bacterial wilt disease which causes sudden wilt and death of affected plants. Prevent this type of damage by using a row cover fabric over your plants early in the growing season. (Remove the cover when flowers are in bloom to allow for insect cross-pollination.)
