This is a lovely video! Love your wisdom you share as you take us with you sharing your abundant garden. Beautiful Pepper's eggplants animals,
Men riding horses, flowers and leading with wisdom! Well done!
❤❤❤
Being prepared has gotten rid of a lot of my fear.
I would love to hear your thoughts on preserving foods which will not need reheating, cooking or rehydrating and thoughts on not relying on your fridge and freezer during a crisis. Alot of these videos show a heavy dependency on generators, fridges and freezers, but what if you can no longer rely on these? What would you rely on if these failed?
Collecting cookbooks is one of my passions. I tell myself what if the electric goes off😂❤❤❤❤
❤❤❤
I really wish people could realize how blessed & lucky we all are our here to come across your channels filled with wisdom notes. You have such a beautiful way of putting things in a calm and loving way, its refreshing to learn & have that extra kick that comes in after listening to you, (sometimes over & again), we realize the actual points you're getting across. I don't know exactly how to put this into words – other than we need many more teachers like you in this world. Thank you, Jess. Very deeply appreciative of the time you take to share with all of us. Even the grouches that may come across once in awhile in comments may one day, when self analyzing, realize just how much you've helped for the better. Praying for you & everyone there. ❤
Have I been misled? I heard that Guineas went after bugs but left plants alone.
When are pottery cups going to be available?
Thank you Jess, I needed this today. I have been consumed with anything I could find of the devastation from Helene and now that Milton is projected to be even worse. I didn't realize I had entered into consuming fear. Even tho I live in Deep East Texas across the country from the path of either Hurricane. But I've watched and cried with so many people affected by Helene. Thnx for sharing I love you.
The first year after the pandemic, I put out the most variety and largest garden out of fear. But it was just so much work that the summers since then I have grown a much smaller garden because I have 3 kids at home still. But what really made me feel fine with that decision was the first time I heard you talk about not doing things out of fear but doing it for love. I still have aspersions of doing all the things when my teens are out of high school but I’m just slowly adding in things like heritage breeds of chickens so I can be more self sufficient. I tell myself that no matter what is going on God is in control of it. I do what I can to get more prepared for anything but that just gives me peace about it all.
Prepare in order to thrive:) Thank you Father for wisdom and blessings.
When my washer broke I learned how to wash clothes without it. When my hot water heater broke I boiled water on my gas stove to wash my dishes. I was happy I had water to boil and wash my clothes and to drink and take a bath. People could play the what if game. What if I had no hot water, no washing machine, no food? How could I see if I had no electric lights? Then just try and see if it works. Our great grand-parents survived and thrived without so many of the things we take for granted. It is best to get prepared because it eliminates the fear that is associated with loss. We do not have to say 'what if", because we know. It is best to prepare peacefully, without fear. I bless you and I am glad you are doing well.
Make a list of preparedness projects. Tackle one at a time and cross off the list. No fear, just goal oriented in an organized fashion.
amen, so wonderfully said! I started line drying my clothes in the house to save money and now I love it. Saves money, lets clothes last longer, and I tend to pray and thank the Lord for the clothes as I hang them.
It's funny that you asked this question as I was wanting to suggest once a season pulling out your "survival" equipment you just bought and using it so you know how it works and what tweeks you need to make in using it during each season. Like the outside shower, that's great for summer, but will it work well and comfortably in the winter time? Having fun with these types of products and skills make them less jarring when you need it. It's like learning calming techniques when you aren't having a panic attack so if and when you do, you already know what works for you. I learned that tapping breaks me out of anxiety, but deep breathing sometimes triggers a panic attack. But I become more calm if i do tapping followed by a few deep breahtes. How did I figure that out? I stopped trying to figure things out when I was in a panic and tried the techniques when I was at peace. In doing so, I found out that I don't do well with jarring transitions and will do this routine as a prevention when know I'm about to have a sharp transition. For me "a stitch in time saves nine". I hope that makes sense. I love where you are going with this topic!
My main problem with a certain type of prepping content is when it comes with a fear of other people. Unfortunately there are sometimes situations where fearing certain people is necessary because those people are actually dangerous to you, but I think generally anyone proclaiming you need xyz to protect yourself from other people and/or that you should fear those people is probably doing more harm than good
As we are slowly building our 10-acre farm, it is reminding us that have a plan, but be adaptable. We can do water catchment until we get a well. We can use a solar generator with backup gas generator for power. We have a five year plan, but have already shifted priorities based on going slow and steady. Giving ourselves time to dream has been a great gift. Thanks for both the five year plan idea and evidence that you have shifted plans, too.
I used to watch her channel years ago. Loved her!
Jess, I think we need to go camping! Lol I’m pretty sure that would get me out of my comfort zone and force me to a level that I have never been:)
Jessica, you are a gifted speaker. This content is superb!
Very well said. Thank you. September is emergency preparedness month. We try to have a drill, different situation to address.
I feel very angry lately. About the world. About the goings on. About WNC and all the people affected including my family. Thank you for this!!! All I can do is pray! ❤
Aww Jess. Love your thoughts! Peaceful resilience. Yep.
Hubby n I made a choice about twenty years ago. Took our retirement funds early n bought land… got it free and clear.
Lived very primitive for awhile, but had enough skills and imagination to turn it into a comfortable life while we saved , built the house n all . Life got really good, garden thrived, livestock n all did well.. we were full of gratitude Gradually built food storage, were happy little homesteaders.
Then life hit.my adult daughter was diagnosed with stage four colorectal cancer.everything got focused on her journey. It was tough, but we’d been blessed to have the skill set to build her a home ,help with day to day living and all.We had time together as a family til she left us. So many bonds were formed and strengthened during those years.
Now we’re back , rebuilding our own lives and ….here’s for you.. I think it’s about finding the joy of using your skills to have what you need stored , not out in fear, but just being able to feed yourselves, family, friends when the creek comes up or an ice storm hits. (You know how bad our roads in NWA can get 😂. ).
And doing things to create comfort in those times is large part because of that! It brings peace and tranquility rather than struggling during those times.
I am so excited right now! Have to share! When our home went,we’d had running water for a few years… but the last three we’ve been hauling wash water, heating it for dishes and bathing. Guess what !
He came home with pump And pressure tank ! 🎉🎉🎉
So , yes there is deep level of peace in the simple ways, looking at what you’ve accomplished to feel that life is doable . Then there’s the magic moment when you get a hot bath, without heating canners full of water, 😂😂😂
I really think there’s a balance. A wealth of joy that be found in these skills and their results!
Keep on asking the questions, ladybug! 😊
I think this has caused a lot of people to change what they think about preparedness.
I drew many of the same conclusions after going through the big Texas freeze. So grateful afterwards…embrace it!
Jessica you have been brave and hardworking to share your family and life on youtube, so I'm really sorry to hear of the ugly comments. It seems every channel gets them if that helps. Most of remember that you have been a source of important skills, common sense, and inspiration that has helped so many.
My mantra is, “I don’t prep out of fear; I prep for peace of mind”.
I had one video on our Helene experience (which was NOT bad, we are in Southwestern KY and were SO grateful for the rain) and I lost quite a few subscribers right off the bat. Nobody said anything mean but I think us sharing our experience was seen as not tasteful? Not sure, but authenticity matters. Savoring small pleasures amidst chaos matters. Mental health matters.
A friend of mine does a technology 'sabbath' every week. Power is fine, but no phone or internet. Keeps her grounded.
Yes, that lamb story is why I've not eaten meat since 1984.
It's like fasting from electricity, choosing to turn it off on your own. Interesting concept. Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us, Jess. I always enjoy hearing from you. ❤️
As Patara says "Be praying, be prepared and be peaceful" she recommends buying 5 goods a week!
To quote Jack Spirko, "Helping you live a better life, if times get tough or even if they don't"
Strategizing and preparing aren't the problem. Doing nothing raises more anxiety.
Oof I got chills! "That's the butcher."
I love Clara's cooking. I still go back and watch her videos ❤
Maybe forget about trying to pioneer – engineer (pioengineer?😆) laundry. Have all the boys wear increasingly stale socks and t-shirts while you bond with no internet for the weekend. This might adequately prepare your heart (and gag reflexes?) for harder times! That mindset also seems to lend itself toward the message you were delivering before being assaulted by the storm. Before, you seemed more focused on maintenance and organization of what you already have. 99.9% of non zombie emergencies can be weathered well if most of the undies in the house are clean and the gas tanks are mostly full on any given day. Staying on top of basic maintenance and organization for every day seems harder for my ADHD self than adjusting to the challenge and novelty of a new normal in the event of a major disaster, but the space in life constant maintenance provides is almost all that is necessary to weather most hard times.
