Blueberries – What’s The Bloom On Fruit Skin?

The bloom is also known as epicuticular wax and is hydrophobic, repelling water. This substance is a naturally occurring wax on the surface of some fruits, and it’s safe to eat. Its function is to preserve the fruit by preventing water loss and protecting it from pathogens and insects. This thin waxy layer makes it hard for insects to hold onto and crawl.🫐🪲🦠
