Now thatโs a mental picture, you in your swimming trunks in a storm trying to stake up a tree !!!!. That is brave, a true gardener ๐ฉโ๐พ๐๐ซ๐ทโค๏ธ
Your gardens have weathered Helene better than you were thinking. These plants trees and shrubs are quite resilient!
Itโs always a set back . Prayers for those that sustained property damage or worse from this major storm. Good news you and property are well.
Glad you did not have more damage. It reminds usNature is King and Queen and we have to go along and constantly change our plans.
Glad all is well ๐The rain you needed came at last! ๐
Glad your garden is okay!
Iโm so glad that your gardens are largely undamaged. In case you didnโt catch it, earlier this week a promotional email from Heirloom Roses had a very laudatory piece on you and your gardens. They spoke highly of your skills and love of gardening. Kudos to you!
Great to hear that youโre safe. Prayers going out to everyone who is affected by this devastating event.
Thank goodness wasnโt too bad.
I pretty much was faced with the same thing here in Columbus, Ohio. The wind was just incredible but the plants held up pretty well. I ended up pulling half of my petunias as the wind did a number on them, and brought in some fresh asters to take their place. Some tree branches down but luckily they didn't break any of my rose canes. Was a good idea to come out Thursday to tie things down for sure.
Glad it wasnโt worse, Matthew. Iโm just considering it the end of the gardening season here in Kentucky, as far as trying to make the garden pretty. Going to now do fall plantings and gather leaves for leaf mold.
I'm in Tallahassee, Florida. We dodged a bullet this time, but I still have a lot of cleanup to do.
Well it could have been worse I guess, but oh my. I feel for you, storms are always a fret. We have baseball size hail last spring and we spent MONTHS getting everything cleaned up. It took almost 6 weeks to get the roof and siding replaced on every building. Just SO stressful. ๐ข
Hang tough you will get there.
The sunpatiens look amazing! Such a bright spot. Glad there was minimal damage.
Thank you for letting us know. Be safe.
I feel so bad for your garden. Us gardeners can have our hard work knocked out in minutes from bad weather. I have litterly stood and cried after my yard was devastated. It's just part of gardening but does not take away the hurt!
Happy your home was spared. Your garden is beautiful (damage and all). Cann't wait to see the next video after the clean up. Cheers
๐ง๐ง๐จ so glad there's no major damage
I'm about 70 miles to your west and have been playing pick up sticks (and limbs) all day. Glad your damage was minimal. PS – I purchased "The Hydrangea Book" on your recommendation, and I have been enjoying it so far. Thanks for the book suggestion. Do you have any other favorites?
Thanks God you and me in Georgia didn't get muchdamage for the storm! We only had electricity off for 10ish hours! Praise God! Blessings!
Iโm so glad you and your husbandโs ( Iโm sorry I forget his name) came through ok. ๐จ๐ฆ๐๐
Glad it wasn't too bad for you. Fortunately, it wasn't here either. We were in the flood path, here in NE Appalachia Alabama. All of our EMA in our area are raising funds, and supplies for our neighbors, in our neighboring states.
This hurricane is the largest I've ever seen as far as the amount of land it has affected, and then it kind of split and about 1/3 of it turned north east toward PA and the bulk of the remnant went west and has been just rotating as a low system over Ohio and the surrounding midwestern states in a westerly spin. Really out of the normal weather pattern. Very unprecedented! Thanks for the update. Glad you are safe and your gardens did fairly well.
Heleneโs eye passed directly over us in Greenville, SC. We just got electricity back this evening. One container fell over, rolled down the hill and broke. Thatโs trivial damage compared with people who had trees fall through their roofs or were flooded. Others actually died. It was a terrible storm that reached far inland to Atlanta and Asheville.
Same here in Ky ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐
5 if my neighbors huge oak trees are now laying in my flower beds. And took out our fence on 3 sides. We have a horrible mess but our house of fine and no flooding at my home. Iโm TN.
How much rain fell? Did your large trees finally get a good saturation?
SORRY ๐
The weather is crazy ๐ณ weโre having flooding in the UK due to the severe rain, so glad youโre safe ๐ฅฐ
Wow! Who would think youโd get that kind of weather from FL hurricane? Glad it wasnโt too bad. Always adapting to weather
I'm glad you survived it without major loss! That was a heck of a storm. All of my tomato plants are down, even though i cut them back and reinforced them. That was my biggest loss though, so i can't complain.
Even though your garden is wind blown, it's still stunning! If you ever decide to give a public tour, then count me in. ๐
It's always heartbreaking.
Bought a little Cornus kousa 'Satomi', best one in my opinion on offer regarding branching, pruned it more up to my standards, coiled it with wire to redirect growth (bonsai technique), planted it out in a new spot, staked it and then a storm came through and snapped one of said branches off…..God sometimes just decides to FCK you up good for no reason at all.
Hi Matthew! I'm so glad to hear, and see, that you had minimal damage from the hurricane. Like you, and so many others, I feel really bad for the damage others received. Only a truly dedicated gardener would go out in the wind and rain, in their swim trunks, to stake up a tree. ๐คฃ Kudos, Matthew, that would have been quite a site! ๐ Thank you so much for sharing and letting us know that you survived the hurricane!
