I have been trying to grow some sphagnum moss. I just opened my container and it has this white webbing that I haven’t seen before. Is it mold? How do I treat it?

  1. I literally hunted around my friend’s garden the other day for springtails and woodlouse because of this.

Yes, add spring tails and or a little chunk of charcoal

  3. Thats way too much mold for springtails to take care of. You may want to physically remove as much as you can first, then come back in with something like a diluted vinegar or baking soda water solution or hydrogen peroxide and dabbing at the remnants with a cotton swab, and THEN adding springtails to maintain control.

  4. Unless someone’s got a verified method of annihilating it from a batch, I’ve found that it’s best to quarantine and remove the affected and immediate surrounding area. I’ve never had success of complete removal when it’s affected a batch, even after applying different dosages of diluted hydrogen peroxide, increasing airflow, and adding springtails, so now I don’t bother and just remove it. I’d rather regrow from a smaller portion than end up having a house colony with all those webs
