Maidenhair fern report: my watering cue for this plant is to water when the pot feels just slightly lighter than when fully saturated. At the light levels of their location (100-200 foot-candles, no direct sun), I’d say I was watering every 3 days. I was good about that with the plant on the left. But the one on the right – I didn’t check it and went away for 2 days. When I came back, I found wilted leaves all over. Notice how they are still green but don’t become hydrated even with a thorough watering – this is permanent wilt damage. On the other hand, both plants have older leaves that have turned brown, which I conclude is the normal die back as new leaves grow. All you humidity naysayers will say it’s low humidity but my hygrometer says this room is plenty humid – 60% most of the time and up to 80% after I shower. Next steps: I’ll cut back the damaged plant and see how it grows back. If you appreciate this level of analysis and would like me to do the same for one of your plants, become my patron 😊🌿 link in profile.
