How to grow kalanchoe plants

Kalanchoe is a beautiful, low-maintenance succulent plant that’s perfect for terrace gardens. Here’s a guide to growing it successfully:

1. Choosing the Right Spot:

Kalanchoe plants thrive in bright, indirect sunlight. A spot on your terrace that gets morning sunlight but is shaded during the hottest part of the day is ideal.

2. Soil Requirements:

Use well-draining soil, such as a mix of regular potting soil and sand or perlite. Succulent-specific soil works well to prevent root rot, as Kalanchoes do not tolerate soggy soil.

3. Watering:

Water sparingly, allowing the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Overwatering can cause the plant to rot. During the growing season (spring and summer), water more frequently, but still let the top layer of soil dry out.

4. Fertilization:

Feed the plant with a balanced fertilizer once a month during its growing season. Avoid fertilizing in winter when the plant is dormant.

5. Pruning:

Regularly prune dead flowers and leaves to encourage new growth and keep the plant healthy. Kalanchoe is a flowering plant, so trimming spent flowers promotes blooming.

6. Potting:

If planting in containers, choose pots with drainage holes to prevent water accumulation. Kalanchoes can be grown individually or grouped with other succulents for a vibrant display.

With the right care, your Kalanchoe will bloom bright, colorful flowers, adding beauty to your terrace garden.
