I sort of do the same with my container garden pots… i put sticks, 4-6” packed tight into .the bottom of my container, cover with soil wet all until gushing water from the bottom, then plant.
Yes deer are a problem! I still have yet to harvest the sweet potatoes. 120 days was last Sunday, waiting until Helene passes and dries out the beds.
