Be encouraged. Do not give into the fear of man. The Lord is warning us and he cares for us. Bad things happen to every major character in Scripture who had to trust the Lord and endure. He warns His people before disaster comes. Its from him. Do not forget, the people always kill the prophets. You have heard from Him and so have many of us. ❤
I know you'll shore-up any weak spots for your family. This has been an important heads up. I feel bad for apt dwellers, yes there are some things they can do, but being stuck in a block of apts would test your last nerve.
Quick note regarding the want for an outhouse. There are "outhouses" in National Parks miles up trails near High Sierra Lodges that are solar run and have a way of breaking down all without maintenance and smell. It's fancy and simple.
People are so “Entitled” these days…..suck it up people…the world doesn’t revolve around you 🙄
I so appreciate hearing your thoughts and your heart! And I absolutely agree with you!
From what understand there's more hurricanes coming…..dig that privy. Lots of prayers for all the folks affected 😢
Wish i could give this more than 1 thumbs up. Well said, Jess. Well said.
We just added a whole farm generator this summer. Runs off of LP. We had a generator that ran off of one of our tractors but last year we decided we were getting to old to worry about going out during a blizzard if our power went out or anything that would cause an outage.
I am 77, and live in Houston, Texas, we are used to Hurricanes….but, it is always tough….I think all of us should try to get ourselves, as much as we can, prepared to be on our own….with no power, each of us has different needs…so I will not give you any advice…you two are smart….weigh the problems, and come up with the solutions…we did the generator thing, on the freezers, ect. hope it is not too warm, and uncomfortable there, we have that problem in Houston..i bought me some fans, to run on the generator….and bought a small window unit, that i hook up, in the family room, and sleep in our chairs…make a plan…this stuff, does not look like it is getting any better….and there is no changing the climate…
Thank you Jesse for thinking of something so fundamental when you are going through this crisis yourself. I’ve been through a couple of situations when at least some of my family’s needs were in question. I’ve lived in a third world and yes, you are right. We are spoiled into thinking that others will take care of our needs. But resilience is a beautiful word and a loaded word. Let’s hold ourselves to that standard of being reliant, building resilience. It’s a sad day for our country with so many people in dire need. But it is time we woke up to that and learn how to look after ourselves. And how to do with less.
so truthful & honest, thank you God Bless
I enjoyed your video Jess. I’m a pretty resilient old bird but I still have my moments when I get overwhelmed. I usually am ok if I just calm myself down and sleep on it. And yes, just do what you CAN do! You hang in there sweetie, things will continue get back to “ normal “. But now you have insight on things you can work on.God bless ✝️🙏❤️
If you end up building an outhouse consider a composting toilet. They’re great and need zero power.
My clothes washer broke like 2 years ago and I’ve been hand washing ever since. Fill a tub with some water and clothes washing detergent, but not too much detergent. Separate colors and all that, put the clothes in, mush them around a bit then let soak long enough for the chemicals to dissolve the dirt, like 20 mins, then drain, squeeze out as much as possible. Refill your tub with water and a little fabric softener, mush and soak again, drain and rinse with just water once or twice. Hang to dry. Love and hugs galore!! 🫶🏻
I haven't watched your video all the way through yet as I just got off work, but I know that this trying time will make you much more stronger and resilient in the end.
Thank you
If you have a spare chest freezer, buy an external temperature controller to make a much more efficient refrigerator. When you raise the lid, you will not loose your cold air. Hang in there..
The first thing … a wood stove. Heat, coffee, hot water, cooking. I could not live without mine. Sometimes lose power for 2 wks. In the winter
We live in Northern Canada and alot of wood stoves and extra bottles of water and a way to cook on a firepit outside or a BBQ…we survive -40 with out power and water because the older generations knew to always be prepared with extra food and wood..amazing that people have lost alot of knowledge from some.very hardy people.who came here and survived winters in a sod shack on a windy prairie
Events such as this, become a: 'Chose your own ending' type of adventure.
My hubby asks me multiple times a week, why do you can food? Why does the freezer always have to be full? Why do you stock up on extra food, toiletries, water, what is the point?……..this is the point.I live in Michigan so it's not very often that we would be faced with this kind of devastating loss, but just in case, I want to be as prepared for anything that gets thrown at us.
Love this. You have been guided to speak this. Hard truth isn’t heard until you are able to listen. Don’t listen to the haters, they aren’t able to hear, preach to us that need it. Thank you. ❤
An outhouse would be easy and a good idea. We have 40 solar panels with a backup battery system. We are grid tied, but if the grid is down the battery system runs a subpanel that has our well pump, fridge, freezers, fireplace blower, sump pump and a few lights and outlets. It is expensive but the peace of mind is so nice. Prayers for all who have been hit by the storms. ❤
Rain water catchment and filter system that doesn't need electricity, composting toilets, food stored that doesn't need refrigeration, rocket stoves, tools to hand wash your clothes, gardens, lamps and candles, medical supplies and herbal medicine. I have all these. Never perfect! But a step!
I live on the Gulf coast and am familiar with surviving by the storm. A few years ago my husband and I chose to purchase a whole house generator (we have natural gas)to protect us from power loss due to storms. Oddly enough the first use of the generator was the freeze of 2021. Since then we have had a few storms and lost power for many days. Because of the sacrifice we made to add this equipment to our home all of our children and their families were warm, dry, safe, and together. You do what is best for you and yours but your heart will rest when you’ve done all that you can. Yes it was expensive – but at the time, it cost less than a new car. Peace be to you.
Love Kristen Hannah!!
Definitely run gas or propane and get that kind of stove.
You always do an excellent job with educating and I agree with every word you said.
Personally, I've wanted to get a solar generator for quite some time but, plain and simple I do not understand solar enough to just purchase one and it is so aggravating! I've considered natural gas and regular gas ones and they just don't appeal to me on more than one level. To me, natural gas would be useless in an earthquake situation on top of the fact that I recently learned how expensive it is to operate a natural gas powered one (and earthquake is somewhat a threat for me). Regular gasoline is also expensive and I've seen past events that caused the issue of not even having gas available to purchase during times of power outages and or extreme need (I'm rural) storing excess gallons of gas is not really a good option for me as otherwise I simply don't require much. Solar expensive to start but then basically free…but if I can't figure it out again a useless expense. I'm elderly and cautious and I've discovered the older I get the more cautious I am. I'll figure it out…funds are meager but I'm good at stocking the house, have grill ready and being single is a blessing by way of my needs are fewer than for families.
And conservatives deny climate change..
