Alrighty then, you already have a well. All you need is a hand pump, pipe and connections. There is a video on youtube showing you how to do the bypass. During the Rona there were several people looking for cow milk and goat milk for infants but you cannot sell it in most states. If it is dire then it is not your fault if you left it on the porch and they stole it.
We filled the tub with water to flush the toilets. I live on Barnwell close to Jackson and many trees in Five Points area are down. And as usual my phone alert went off asking us to come down to Five Points to fill sandbags because the businesses down there get terribly flooded and Harden Street turns into a river and parked cars started floating. Unfortunately the death toll has reached over 50……19 in South Carolina and most were drownings. A seven year old and a four year old burned up in their house after a tree fell on it……,,what in God’s creation were they doing in that house alone? An eight year old got electrocuted……,why was he outside riding a bike? I’m thinking these parents have a lot to answer to……..our kids at lake Murray have no power, our kids in Greenville too and my sister in Blythewood also…..Everyone is being told it could be up to a week before it’s back up!!! We must be better prepared……this is not our first rodeo…..the Lord gives us the ability to overcome these glitches (generators etc) we’re just not paying attention. I bless everyone in the path of the storm.
Freezers? generators?
Might suggest rain catchment at the barn… all you need is a gutter, a downspout, and some rain barrels. This would provide water at the barn for animals. Also if you have a well, you could easily have a small generator set up by the wellhouse to power the pump, so you'd have water in the house. Solar generators are great too, you have a ton of room for a few panels mounted on a pole-back up for running freezers and such. It's an intial investment, but I do believe we are going to be experiencing major outages coming soon. If you wait, you won't be able to get the stuff to do it.
I would be very interested in the water filter thing. Please keep us up to date.❤ so glad yall are ok. Bless you
Yall are homesteaders and are planning fire instead of hugelkulture? 😮
Glad you are all well.
That is crazy that it was still a Cat 4 when it hit you guys!! Thankful it didn’t cause more damage than it did for you!
Have you heard from the Rhodes or Brianna (Art and Bri)? Seeing the devastation of their towns has me very concerned for them.
Thanks!
This is what our classrooms are for. You learned something, and by extension, we did too
🙏🙏❤❤👀👀
We have 275 gallon water tanks under our gutters. We have 3 water tanks and a generator to run our well and frig and freezers
Glad everything seems to be working out and everyone is okay! We got lucky. It was supposed to go right over us, due west of you. We had our rain catchment set up, the generator fueled, extra gas, propane, all empty water containers filled, including the washing machine for toilet water. There's a ton to prep for, especially if you haven't experienced power outages for a week or more. We did realize we need more water barrels since the pigs waste a lot!
So grateful you all are safe.❤
Glad you all are safe, prayers for others involved with the storm
So so glad you’re ok and I’m (we’re ) learning from you. In the city our Generac brings such peace of mind and the solar lights I keep as decoration on the fence will come in the house if that ever fails. Looking forward to hearing what else you’re learning thru all this.
So thankful you are all OK!
We live in SWFL and we're always thinking of new ways to be comfortable during/after storms since we get hit pretty often.
I really want to install a hand pump on our well system so we can at least pump water out
Has anyone heard anything from Danny & Wanda/ Deep South Homestead. There's nothing new on their YouTube. Glad to see others checked on also. Glad y'all are ok♥️
So glad your family is ok! Thanks for the updates!
Jess and Miah, We live in SW Louisiana so, unfortunately, are well-versed in hurricane recovery. If you cut the tops off of your fallen oaks, letting the root balls fall back into place, and keep them watered as needed, they may recover. It is amazing how quickly they can grow back. We are praying for everyone. God's speed dear ones.
If able, invest in a whole-house generator. My parents live in Maine… ice storms etc., and it's been a lifesaver for them..
Hope your all fine
Stay safe
Best wishes from UK
Loss of the tree😢. Attitude is everything. Amen.
With a generator available, you should be able to hook it into your system to run your well pump long enough to fill containers, then switch it back to your freezers. Pain to do, of course, but it should get you drinking water for you and your animals. Good luck on getting power back soon!
my brother is on its way there with nb power from canada Stay strong
Good to hear from you and hoping you get that electricity soon! Thanks for the update!
Now you can use your propane to heat. But a propane burner inside would make life without electricity much easier.
Most well pumps "plug in", just plug it in a generator. In the case it is hard wired I would put an outlet in the pump house for just these occasions. Storms arent the only reason power can go out. You can also look into solar generators and 12V systems to work in such cases. 12V pumps are really cheap, they will and can run off a car battery; Although a deep cycle battery will be worth its weight in gold and can be recharged over and over and most will last 10 yrs. A small solar set up is cheaper than you think, need suggestions let me know.
Deep well is very useful. Gallons of water on hand inside the house for anything is useful. Generac too
Hurricane Hone took out power in my community for a few days, but we are off grid so we were fine. Homesteading makes you more resilient and able to handle emergencies for sure.
We have converted a small bedroom in our house into what we call our extended pantry. In there we have about 350 liters of drinking water plus the rain water tank outside for cooking and washing. As you say, this is a good test of your system. Good luck and stay safe.
When I was growing up we would fill up the bath tubs with water when a storm would run through just in case the power went out, then we’d have water to flush the toilets. I didn’t realize that it was because of the well and pump situation, so shortly after I got married I was sitting in our apartment with my husband when I storm came and I ran to the bathroom and started filling up the bath tub, he gave me the silliest look, lol. Turns out you don’t need to fill up the bath tubs if you live in the city and don’t use well water. 😂
