Our family that visited last week has gone back home, and after a wonderful 10-day visit, we’re getting back to normal. It usually takes a few days to settle back into our usual routine. I’d say the hardest part of living abroad is missing family. Still, we can’t really complain, because as soon as one visit ends, another is just around the corner—particularly during the summer months. With a few days before my mom and bonus dad arrive, we’re adjusting to being just the three of us again. That means I’m back to editing full time. That week, I was working on the “One Year Progress” video, and with me back at the desk, Philippe was on digging duty—digging, scooping, and transporting soil down to the future pond area.
While Fred the Digger was working at full capacity, Bob the Dumper was giving us trouble, leaking from everywhere imaginable, from hydraulics to oil. We soon called Claude to help figure out what was wrong. We’ve since ordered all kinds of parts to fix these leaks. Even so, Bob, being an old machine, is still a powerhouse! Digging had to continue because as soon as the rain comes, everything could come to a halt.
A few days later, my mom and bonus dad arrived. Although we had many plans for things we wanted to do and places we hoped to visit, we all ended up getting sick, which forced us to slow things down much more than we’d hoped. My bonus dad, Dirk, still found the energy to harvest the potatoes, and my mom helped with Odin, making sure we had a nice meal at the end of the day. Once we started regaining our energy, it was time to give you an update on the vegetable garden. In summary: the tomatoes struggled with the wet winter and spring, the courgettes are thriving, the melons are small, and although we have potatoes, the harvest is less than expected due to the rough season. Still, for first-time gardeners, we’re pretty happy with what we’ve managed to grow!
It’s moments like these that remind us why we chose this life, with all its ups and downs. Thanks for following along on this journey with us, and we’ll see you in the next update!

Have a great day! Philippe, Anicia and Odin!
Beautiful family ❤❤
Looking forward to seeing your video tomorrow
Phillipe, your projects are awesome. You keep constant maintenance a priority and your work spaces are so organized. Even the dig area. You are a good father and husband and friend to Claude. I really enjoy watching Anicia prepare meals and Odin has a great laugh. Pam from Ferndale, Michigan, north of Detroit.
Phillip, I’m looking at that material you are digging and it looks a bit clayish, good for your dam but I’m worried about those straight walls, a lot of rain and they could slip suddenly and unexpectedly.
I loved every aspect of your video. Please, do not let negative comments discourage you. You are a wonderful family. God’s richest blessings to you and your family.🙏🏻
That old dumper you bought is worth it's weight in gold. That old dumper machine is so cool. Between that and your mini excavator you can do so much around that farm. So glad you are tak8ng great care of these 2 machines. They will serve you well because of that. I'm so glad for you that you were able to get both of those. They're gonna come in so handy. In the future, just like they are now! Not a boring episode at all for me. All these items that you're showing us help you get to where you want to go and a pond is going to be a nice thing for your family.❤
Don't know what it is about Bob and Fred but I could watch them for hours!! 😃
Maybe it has something to do with the fact they are literally moving mountains!! I do hope you get the hill scraped away from the barn before the rain! we've had hail and torrential rain in Oxfordshire, England this last week, along with beautiful warm sunshine 😊
Oh BTW you are a great guy and so hard working too!😅
The house looks so amazing in the evening light!! Such a wise decision to remove that horrible cladding!!
Gonna be a decent sized pond (dam) looking good guys
Good job, all your hard work shows and I am so glad you let us come along for the ride. I always look forward to your videos because you are such a hard worker and your attitude is so positive. ❤
How is work progressing on the old red farm tractor?
Lovely videos, lovely work! Makes me inspired!
You definitely are well-suited to undertake all of this work, including restoration and repairs. I went through all of the previous videos, and it has been quite impressive! 🙂
Love the music at the very beginning! And end!!
Work abroad before now for good, I'm 61yrs old with business in beauty industry as a medical aesthetician, but I feel inlove in farming, thats true philip many works but the happiness when we done something it's worth, I do appreciate young couples like you and your wife' farming changes a lot into our life, we ate what we grow, poultry etc.
Love the way you go about executing your project and the maintenance of the machinery. A slow and steady pace is how to get things done. The potato harvest was excellent. The tomatoes looked good to me. Next year, you can add additional nutrients to the soil, to help with the blossom end rot, but for now, you have fresh tomatoes. Always loved Fried Green Tomatoes. Thanks for the video and Happy Birthday to Morris!
It is inefficient to attempt to load the Dumper with the Excavator in that manner. Instead, build a bench / platform at least as high as the tires of the dumper. Operated from that elevation, you can both reach the top of the ground and easily heap the bucket with each pass. A great example / demonstration is mega machines channel on YT. They operate excavators so large they heap quad axle dump trucks in 2 passes.
What about a greenhouse next year? They are great for tomatoes and peppers
I live in New England. I also had a difficult time with tomatoes this summer. Green and yellow pole beans did excellent. I have also learned from experience what to do differently the next year. That to me, is what makes gardening fun. You are always gaining new skills. I grew zinnias this summer. The variety of color all summer long was amazing. I harvested many flower heads for next year seeds. Today is the first day of fall here. Best wishes to your family. Kristen from NH
Philippe you have amazing skills. I love that you take time for family… to wish your godson a happy birthday and to play with your son.
Love the earthwork. I know it's exhausting but it also looks fun. Please go in-depth about your plans for a pond! It looks like it's going to be majestic!!
Maybe you can promote the old veggie patch to a potato patch 🥔
What can help you with tomatoes grow faster is a good cut off branches . Most likely and off season they don’t need much of them 😅😅
I must have missed an episode. What is going in the new dug out spot?
The chickens are always my favorite part.
