  1. Don't apologize for anything, I learn something every time I watch your gardening adventures. I love your enthusiasm, it is rubbing of on me. Thank you!

  2. If you don’t have a professional master plan drawing, I use graph paper and measure and drawing a very rough sketch. It suffices if you are just reworking an area in your garden. Wouldn’t be ideal for creating an entire landscape from scratch. I do love how Monty wants to help. 😊

  3. I love seeing you plant trees. They are the most permanent parts of your garden so thank you for including us in the planting. ❤🌿

  4. I love these videos!! It’s amazing to see the transformation just a couple of trees brings. I’m just seeing this on the video and it looks amazing, it must be even better in person. I’m really starting to be able to see what that center island is going to look like. Amazing!

  5. I appreciate your clear and concise explanations of the use of support poles AND of how to use these two measuring tools! I feel like I can put away the graph paper at last!!!

  6. Wow it was very interesting to see how you use those rulers to measure out your garden spaces. Thanks for sharing.😊

  7. This will be amazing! I can't wait until this all comes together but I am so, so enjoying the planting of everything. The canopy in your yard in years to come will be amazingly beautiful!

  8. I love watching the tree planting! More "bones" added to the garden!
Those crape myrtles will be a beautiful, welcoming entry to the path.

Were you able to save any zinnia flowers from the plants you composted?

  9. Monty found the shade that the table made!❤
Love how he wants to be involved!
And the pots that the trees came in….oh man! I'd love to have those! Great for large indoor plants!😉

  10. Janey, I will never get tired of you planting anything! Instant visual change! And we get to see the plan come together. ❤😊

  11. I love watching you plant trees! And man that pathway and the trees makes such a difference in your garden! I love it!

  12. Janey, this video is so valuable! I learned a lot about how to accurately plan on paper. I bought the green stencil awhile back and never took the time to learn how to use it. Game changer! Thank you for sharing!

  13. No ones complaining about tree planting videos.,.we're all learning something, never knew about some of those things about planting trees, thanks for the info.

  14. Q & A question!
Have you considered having the previous owners of the property come for a visit to see what you’ve done with the place? I’m sure they’d be very impressed since they knew the “before” so intimately.

  15. As someone who uses plans all the time, a little trick I use, is to take one of the plans (make a copy of the untouched one at your local printer) and cut each section up so that you can photocopy it as many times as you like onto a regular sized sheet of paper that you can carry around on a clip board with a pen or pencil attached. You can also blow up each section to double the size so that you can scribble notes on it at 1/4" scale rather than 1/8" scale to make it a bit easier to write the notes.

  16. I love watching your videos and your Californian garden. Your sunny personality and the sunny weather always cheers me up after peering outside at my damp and miserable garden. One thing that surprised me, though, was how high you tied the trees to their stakes. I remember being taught to tie them lower down, which allows the trees to wave about in the wind, supposedly strengthening their trunks. Still, it all sounds a bit theoretical !

  17. Really made a big difference and it helps to visualize your plan.
Also, just wanted to mention that I miss your Monday cut flower arranging! And, Saturday coffee talks!

  18. Janey and Jason, I would suggest another size of pathway you are designing. You need to make the pathway 5 ft. wide. The reason being you will be able to work the flower beds easier by moving your cart with plants, gardening tools and plants up and down around easier. You won’t be as exhausted and can go right up the middle working each area with ease. I learned the hard way. I don’t want you to have to re-design your garden rooms years later. Years later you will see trees, shrubs and plants need plenty of room to grow. 🦋🌺🐝

  19. Thank you for sharing your detailed planning method and tools! We can feel your JOY, Janey!! 🩷 Dawn (in IL)

  20. I loved this video! You are a natural teacher, and I finally understand how to read the architectural scale ruler. Thank you! I cannot believe how much gardening knowledge you have accrued over the last several years. You are so smart! It really is fascinating to see what is on paper come to life, isn't it? Those crepe myrtles are beautiful, and I look forward to seeing them in bloom. 🥰💐
