I’m just realizing planting in the fall( early September) is the best time here in southern California ❤ At least for my Perennials, trees and evergreens 🌲 I wish I learned sooner😊

I attended a talk by a professor who was concerned about how much pollen trees give off as his wife had asthma. He devised a scale to rate trees . I remembered him saying podocarpus as one of the highest ratings. Any concern?😢

We have Podocarpus and I love them. The only bad part is that they get spider mites in the summer. They get full of spiderwebs and I have to broom them down quite a bit. Good job on the planting. Looks beautiful.

I’m two months behind on the videos but trying to catch up by watching at a faster speed….kids am I right? In the July front tour You’ve talked about taking that purple fountain grass out for a while now. What if you take that purple fountain grass and put it roadside against the fence? Also, are you going to split the lemon sedum you have along the pathway? Seems like that’d be the most economical way to do it.

I just saw something that said podocarpus need daily water in their first year! Is that real! Helping my SoCal zone 10 daughter plan a drought tolerant garden. She needs to screen neighbors
Please announce hardiness zone at the beginning of the video lol. I just watched only to be bummed out living in zone 8, womp womp!!!
The podocarpus are beautiful, BUT they are not as narrow a you think. My neighbor has six planted along her back fence and they are forty years old now. They are forty feet tall and they hang into my yard about 8 feet. They are over forty feet tall, so even the arborist can only prune them back on the bottom third of the trees. This is annoying for me because my backyard is small and they are shading my vegetable garden. The trees lean into my yard because they grow toward the sun and they are on the north side of my yard. You won't have that problem because you have the long driveway and you could get equipment into your yard but you should plan for them to shade your long border.
I love your garden and am trying to pay attention, but Monty is giving such main character energy and I’m so distracted! 😂💕

I have 2 Podocarpus trees! I LOVE them! So easy to take care of and such an interest to add to your garden.🥰We’re in zone 8 and they THRIVE: 4 years now!

Janey im so excited for y'all, all those trees are so beautiful and just a feww years they will be growing so big. Suggestion, i seen a few committee about all those evergreens in the side bed, i think that is a wonderful idea. Im afraid they will make the orange tree's stressed and it will be to bunched in the orchard, but wherever you plant them they will be beautiful. You your channel and love y'all

We just drilled several holes in our tree trunk and filled with a substance called stump remover. It rots the stump and roots from the inside
Monty is so funny…..he doesn't realize he's just like a toddler….needs to be right in the middle of things so he doesn't miss anything (including between Jason's legs) but is underfoot at the most inopportune times!

I live in southeastern coastal NC, zone 8. Podocarpus is hardy here. I have that have been in the ground for 15 years.

It’s hardy in zone 8! I have them! Southern living has a line of podocarpus that are hardy in zone 7b-11!! They have the Roman candle variety as well, it’s my favorite
Beware how close you plant next to the house and the office. The October Glory Maple Tree has a shallow, sprawling root system123. The roots are most likely to be seen near the surface, and can quickly raise and damage sidewalks, driveways, and home foundations2. The tree has a series of roots reaching outward from the trunk, with anchoring roots holding it firmly in place and smaller feeder roots soaking up moisture and nutrients4. The tree roots typically range way beyond the branch spread, sometimes as far as twice as wide4.
I would love to hear why you think the bobo hydrangeas are not doing well. I have two and mine burn every single year but they only get part-sun. It blows my mind. I have thought maybe they are getting too much water. I would love to hear your thoughts as you transplant the bobo.
