In this video, I’m going to breakdown the cost associated with buying a pergola from Mirador verse building one DIY style. I factor in the cost of wood, materials, and labor both ways. #diy #woodworking #furniture #pergola #outdoors

  1. My first home was a pre-construction and had an HOA. My current forever house no HOA thank GOD! HOA would have been a complete deal-breaker for me this second time around ❤ anyway, I have some diying to do on my backyard without anyone's approval but my own 😊

  2. I really like what you did for the entire pergola. I would like to purchase 10’ x 13’ one. It would be great you could send the discount code. Thanks! 🎉

  3. I’ve been living in an HOA community since buying my first house about 25 years ago. Initially, I had some regrets due to the numerous restrictions on my property. At first, I put up with it because the HOA seemed to benefit the neighborhood. However, things started going downhill about five years ago when a new management company took over.

Under the previous management, if I received a violation, I would get a fine, and if I didn’t pay it within a certain time, a lien would be placed on my house. I could pay off the lien later or when refinancing my home, which wasn’t a big deal. But with the new management company, things took a turn for the worse. They would escalate matters by filing a court case to collect on the lien, which had already accumulated various penalties. What started as a $100 penalty could quickly balloon to $4,000 in legal fees and additional penalties.

I went to court and tried to reason with the judge, but even though the HOA's actions seemed morally wrong, they were technically within their legal rights. I ended up paying the penalties to avoid further court battles and additional fees. I later discovered that the new HOA management was using this strategy intentionally to push homeowners into foreclosure. This allowed investors, who seemed to be working with the HOA, to buy properties at auctions for a fraction of their value. These auctions were often announced in obscure publications with minimal visibility, ensuring that only a few bidders participated.

It became clear that this wasn’t just a problem in Colorado but was happening in other states as well. The government had to step in and pass legislation to limit the power of HOAs and the extent of penalties they could impose on homeowners. So, if you think HOAs are problematic, you’re not alone in your concerns.

  4. Better do not ask for an updates on the existing rules. It almost always means more restrictions and never new possibilities. The chain we are on is only getting shorter my friend.

  5. So you bought a premade pergola and built it on your yard. What's next? Will you assemble a pre-made chair or table by the instructions? XD Everyone can do this.

  6. Any experience with rain? Is there a gutter system? Thinking about buying this but I live in Florida 😅

  7. Your HOA commentary ruined the video. I understand you need to vent but it's really annoying when we're just trying to look at the Pergola setup.

  8. In general the older rules are going to be the smartest. Almost every person who thinks they have a better idea for something that's been working better than any other system in the world for 300 years, is being narcissistic and is going to do more damage than improvement… it's actually really hard generate rules and standards for a community or a culture that stand the test of time and don't violate our god-given freedoms….

  9. These burglars are really cool the only drawback is the 10-ft size limitation. It's not deep enough for furniture and people to stay dry under which is the point of the watertight louvered system 13 ft is the minimum for a table and chairs and the ability to get up and out of your chair and stay Undercover

  10. Hello. May you please send me a link? I would like to get a pergola built for my home with the appropriate entrances and right air flow.
